    1987 Checkmate 2800sx w/ twin Verado 300's

    1987 Checkmate 2800sx powered by twin 2008 Mercury Verado 300's $32,000

The boat has been restored over the past three years and is 95% complete. The exception is painting of the hull. The hull does have some peeling paint on the bottom and misc scratches around the sides. The top deck is in good shape and the cockpit, transom and splashwell were all repainted. This hull is an original race layup from the Checkmate factory and was previously an offshore race hull. The cockpit floor is fiberglass over composite foam to lighten the load and is rock solid.
The boat was re-rigged in 2016 with 2008 Mercury Verado 300's mounted on 6" jackplates with power steering, dual steering rams, and tie bar. The engines have about 1700 hours on them and were professionally gone through by a certified Verado tech and parts were replaced as needed with an open checkbook to ensure they were reliable. They are serviced twice a year by the same certified Verado tech. The ECU's were sent to Whipple for a stage 2 tune and now provide approximate 340 HP and a raised rev limited to 6900 rpm. One of the supercharges was replaced in 2018 due to a bearing failure.

With labbed 28 pitch chopper props, she runs great with excellent fuel economy - with the 108 gallon tank, you will see 150-200 mile range and I typically average about 2mpg over 120-140 mile trips. She will cruise effortlessly at 45-55 MPH in the 4-4500 RPM range and I have seen a best of 83 MPH. I know there is more to be had on the top end, but I have not put in the time to squeeze every MPH out of it. I do not run the boat light, so the top speed was achieved with 5 adults, full gear, 75 gallons of gas and was on the rev limiters with relative ease. If you were to get bigger props and spend more time on setup, I think you could break into the 90's.
During the engine rig, every inch of wiring was pulled and replaced, along with switches and setup with dual auto bilge pumps capable of pumping 4000 GPH combined.

A new transom was installed with oversized knee supports and tied into the stringers. The transom and knees were done with CarbonCore pour in as one solid and continuous pour. The transom is unbelievably strong! During the transom rebuild, the splashwell was converted to a lipless style and really cleans up the transom area. The 280 K-planes were sandblasted and powder coated black.

The entire cockpit and sunpad were replaced last season, including a composite rear seat frame, composite backed sunpad, composite side cockpit panels and new front drop out bolster seats. The cockpit floor had the carpet removed and is gel coated in white, making it easy to clean with a hose after a day on the water. The rear seat has storage under it and the bottom is lined with Dri-dek to keep your lines and things from sitting in a puddle of water. The back of the rear seat lifts out for full access to all of the mechanics mounted in the rear of the boat.
The cabin was professionally redone during the winter of 2018, along with a new custom built dash layout with sliding door to cabin. When you enter the cabin, there is a storage area to the left, electronics and wiring access to the right and you step down to two long couches measuring nearly 7' with a full front birth. There is also a portable lavatory concealed under a hatch to the front of the couches. The cabin has LED lights concealed behind a storage ledge above the couches. In the design of the dash, I wanted to keep it clean, streamline and have all of the instrumentation in front of the driver and within arms reach. Front and center is the flush mounted Raymarine A98 touch screen GPS/MFD. This unit displays all of the engine info with customizable layout. Since all of the engine info is displayed on the MFD, I kept the gauges to a minimum with only the two Mercury Smartcraft gauges and a gas gauge being installed. The Mercury DTS controls are mounted on the right along with the trim controls and heads up trim indicators. The DTS engine controls are effortless to use and has the option of single lever control for easy synchronized cruising.

The tunes are provided by a Kenwood bluetooth stereo with an amp, sub and four speakers. The boat sits on a 2017 Venture Commander series trailer with under 3,000 miles on it. The trailer is an aluminum I-beam style with four wheel disc brakes, LED lights all around and full size spare. The boat will also come with a new (2018) snap on cockpit cover with two support poles. There has been in excess of $60k invested into the boat over the past three years and is in top running condition. Asking $32,000 and test rides will be provided for serious buyers only. Open to partial trades - I also have five wireless communication headsets available with the boat. Contact Spencer (856) 207-7174

    Gorgeous!
Love what you did w/the cabin door. One of my biggest bitches of that era 25/28's.

    Good luck w/the sale.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

When I bought it, it had a huge bracket with tie bars and no cabin - just bulk heads.

None of the core was replaced with the transom work. The core is all solid and not in need of repair.

I will have engine hour print out, compression test and leak down results by the end of the week.

As one who has followed twin O/B vee's his entire life, I can tell you $45K for a turn key rig of this caliber, and this performance level w/this history..........., is a steal!

In my experience, anything 28' or over w/current power and a real cabin is going to start in the mid $40's.
One that was a complete re-fit--------------

These hulls are very rare and the one negative I always bitched about was the storage hatch/cabin entry door which forced you to crawl in on your hands and knees.
This one has been corrected to give you a real cabin.

    Well done.
