buying a used 300xs run in the salt...plus octane question
So I'm looking at a boat with a 08' 300xs, under 250 hours, that has been run in the salt.
- Always a good sign if engine looks clean visually...but what else to to check for corrosions issues? (other than standard stuff... compression check, read plugs, examine gear oil, etc)
- Fuel injectors and Air injectors were cleaned last season...Anyway to verify Air Pump condition, other than listen?
- FWIW Haven't bought a salt run outboard in a while....last one had a hole in the water jacket I only found after 50 hours of run time, so not sure what options I have, other than pulling a head? (probably wouldn't go over well with the seller)
- When you are stuck at a Marina with regular gas only, is there an octane booster suggested for the 300xs? Or just asking for trouble on anything less than premium at the pump?
Thanks!Last edited by motuman; 09-05-2018 at 06:03 PM.
