yes, i own it. since 2008. they only built 1, a converted vwing, a modvp tunnel v. 1 of 4 built for havasu 1981. the only known existing vwing left, and it was in michigan years ago. joe wallace.

I served as turn judge at the 1982 Powerboat Magazine Mod-VP National challenge race on Lake Bulow in Pineville, La so I had a pretty good view of all the boats and there was one of these boats there. It looked fast but was not competitive with the Laser 380`s, Bakers, Sleek Crafts, Allison GT-20 and Hydrostream Vikings of the day. To say it was different was very accurate. I still believe it was there only for exposure. It didn`t take to the water but I think just one time and I think it broke something. The HydroStream Viking tube tunnel wasn`t there either.

more on the vwings:
i have 3 pictures of the vwing on my phone just before it went in the storage barn last year. i'll see if i can get them on this forum.
howard pipkorn built 4 of these and raced them at havasu 1981. he painted them the colors of 4 outboards, mercury, mariner, johnson, and evinrude. they all had matching outboards too. my vwing is the mariner one. the others have not been seen since the mid 80's. jim bremer drove the mariner one. he also raced it around the country in 1982. this boat was the one they used for the ski wing.
the "torpedo vking" was only raced twice, in 1981Last edited by mercboat; 08-21-2019 at 09:48 PM.
