300 xs alarm

hey all, could use a little help. went out for a ride, motor semmed to be running a little rough, try to plane off, it wouldn't spin up. out of gear, rev it up in high idle, alarm comes on right away 1500rpm????? any ideas

If it is a racing opti 300XS, you're not supposed to rev in high idle. The TPS "learns" last idle position and will throw a code. As far as rough, need more info but fuel lines, maintenance, pulse pump, sticking thermostat come to mind as potential culprit(s).

Check to see if you lost a coil...Or a coil wire is loose or bad. Just went thru this with my opti.

thanks for all the feedback, i was kinda thinking coil, it seemed to b running rough like i lost a cylinder or two. went out day before, all was good, do these things just go like that?

I have had my opti lose a coil and not make a beep. Just ran poorly. I just had a plug wire get a bad spot on it (lost that cyl) and it beeped like crazy. Beep chart helps, but is not the bible IMO. If you have a timing light, hook it up on each plug wire and run the motor and check with light. No flash no fire, shut down the motor to move to another wire. You can get a bad shock from them if not careful.

well after checking everything i could, i caved to bring it down to the local dealer, put it up on computer. to my amazement, everything checked out fine????? he said maybe battery not putting out enough power, what, but it starts and runs???? new battery, all is good, just never know, sometimes its so simple! thanks all for the input.
