Out here it was the insane amount of wake boats that bit me this season...Blew my mind how many of those high $ river wreckers were out this year...and driving like....well,you know.Mix that in with there 40 speakers hanging all over cranked past max into nothing but distortion.Nothing short of frustrating some days.

Pontoons are comfortable and the ones that have the planing rails are not slow. You can expect to see more.

My lake is packed with toons. It is a keeping up with the Jones thing. A lot of high end toons. Everybody trying to outdo the next guy and have the nicest at the Bar or Beach. A lot running-40-50mph or better.

I've never been a huge "high performance" pontoon fan, I always gave them the stigma of the pontoons my mom always owned as a kid, slow, ill handling, blah blah blah...... but this weekend we were stuck off plane on a big lake working our way back to the launch when one of those guys went ripping down the middle of the lake, snotty as hell water, looked to be going 55-60+ just slicing right through everything.
I'm talking take water over the back of our boat if i wasn't paying attention rough....this thing wasn't even flinching.
I'm now convinced as to why they are so popular, comfortable, easy to operate, can plow through some nasty water, fit lots of people, etc. For rivers and large inland lakes, they make more sense to me than a Baja or similar, i mean they handle the rough nearly as well and many go just as fast.

i get that but i,m not a toon fan nor do i want one the thread was to state there is more and more toons on the lake than before the tower boats are just as bad when is it going to be enough when there are too many toons that they are bumping off one and another ?

I don't want one either, just pointing out why I think they are becoming so popular. Easy to operate, easy to load up with people, handle rough water well, etc.

I have noticed the same thing here on the Chain-o-Lake in Illinois. One of the local dealers had a pontoon with twin 400R's for sale for $200,000+. Insane....
We just came back from Shootout weekend in the Ozarks and noticed a lot of newer Center Consoles and outboard cats. The market for I/O performance boats is nearly dead. The outboards are fast becoming the power of choice on new boats.

I never thought I'd say this, as I've been boating since 4th grade ( I'm 45 now ), but I am seriously considering selling a 28 Skater and buying a nice Tritoon for the many reasons listed above. Don't shoot me.

Lots of pontoons out there but speed and a pontoon is uncool and trying too hard. A good 40-100hp 4 stroke that runs super quiet and run at slow cruise speeds is what toonin is all about. Most of my friends have em, BBQ on boar, wet bar and whatnot. Its a lot of fun to cruise around slow, shooting the breeze. Most toons cruise close to shore to sight see and really they dont bother me much because low wake and low speeds.
Those wakeboard boards though are very tough to share water with. Worse than cruisers because they are literally trying to heave as much water up as possible and do laps which can wreck a good bay in minutes.
I have a strategy of avoidance. I'll gladly work all weekend long to get a single weekday free when the waters are far less populated with boat traffic. Doesn't always work out but its what I aim forHydrostream dreamin

I'm 70, my wife's just shy of that mark. A good boating friend of ours is 78, Jill asked me the other day when I was going to get a pontoon boat. I said Jill, your 78 and you could get a wheel chair if you wanted one, why don't you get one? She hasn't asked the question in a while now.

Wow that’s some funny stuff right there!!! But i’ll Tell ya, this **** is getting outa control with these Damn wake boats. My lake is a frigging ocean now. I just don’t see going 9 MPH behind a boat while your riding on one of those Damn surfboards or whatever the hell they are called. I grew up in the 70’s when you barefooted at 40 MPH! When ya took a neck snapper you knew you were moving. The toons and the wakers have taken over everything. I’m thinking it’s about time to start doing some fly bys and giving em a good drowning with the rooster tail. I’ll take my chances with the cops!!
