Anybody Seeing Pattern With Merc's New Line Of 4 Strokes?
I went thru 4 dealers in my area before I found one who would talk about the new big stuff (V6 / 3.4L & V8 / 4.6L). They could have a conversation all day long about anything 60hp or below but were clueless about the big boys or MSRPs for them (had to look it up on the internet). I get the impression that they'll carry inventory for smaller stuff that's easier to get rid of (stock rotation) but anything costing over 4 figures can only be had by ordering / financing.............in other words, "pre-sold".

Price and availability subject to change based on customer demand.......Oldest marketing ploy ever. It assures the highest price you can receive as the seller....

Many dealers, like Mercury are required to sell a certain amount of engines a year, Its much more financially responsible to have smaller, less expensive motors on your floor plan than a bunch of big or high performance motors. JMO

Customer Demand?
There is quite a large number of buyers beating their heads on a brick wall to spend money on these. Current lead time from Merc is 140 working days (if you are lucky). MSRP (from the internet) and what's currently being put on paper are radically different............to the tune of $5K lower..............The prices for the kicker motors on up to 60 hp do not scale up to these bigger ones. The kicker prices are vastly exaggerated.

My dealer has told me to wait until next year if I want one. I'm interested but not hot to get one....Even he's not sure why the motors are being delayed....

Waiting Line 2019
My dealer ordered a 250 ProXS in March (for himself) and it still hasn't arrived...……...At least I'll be waiting thru winter for mine to be built. Mercury Marine will be getting an earful from customers when the boat shows happen in January 2019. They really fumbled their PR campaign last spring with major misfires in their production plans. Kinda reminds me of a commercial airplane builder who rolled out an all-composite jetliner one summer when it wasn't even ready (LOL).

Mother Mercury didn’t become rich and successful by being generous, that’s for sure.

BRP recreational products is larger than the new Brunswick without the fitness stuff will probably be, after the first year of separation the figures will be out on who makes the money??
If you announce it and cant supply it, you have created a big window of opportunity for your opposition to make a new product and make yours old news...Last edited by powerabout; 08-24-2018 at 07:52 AM.

Only if the opposition has something new that is equal to or better or else it doesn't matter.. Now with four stroke motor would be nice to see other manufacturers come out with something to compete with mercury racing line of motors. The only reason mercury can do what they do is because no competition. So it's wait till I finish because you ain't going across the street to the competition

Back To Drawing Boards
One thing for sure..........behind schedule or not, Merc's new line of 4 strokes is going to send Honda back to the drawing boards to get rid of some weight. I'm getting 50 more hp and FOUR more cylinders (and the torque to go with it) for just 30 pounds more than my Honda product currently weighs. Adaptation of car engines ain't gonna work anymore if you are serious about weight. Powerheads and mid sections must be purpose-designed. My plans to re-power with a 200 hp Honda went right out the window when Merc announced these new models. 100 pounds more weight for 50 more hp? Not anymore!
