Had a 2.6 cross flow that did the same thing. Pulse pack fixed it.

Some people call them power packs. There are 2 of them. One may be bad.

Been a while but you do not have to remove the fly wheel. Just a couple bolts that hold them on and plug in some wiring. Pretty simple.

pulse packs were used from1966 to 1972-batt charged and VERY hard on batts/charging sys. power packs started in 1973 and are alternator charged, smaller, cheaper, more dependable, last longer, quicker rise time, stronger spark.

The wire colors should make sense and the bus bar cover on the motor should have a description

Mine were two bolts and only fit neatly one way. Not sure on the V6 but I think its similar. Shouldn't matter which way the pack is mounted so long as the wires are routed to the correct locations it'll run. Pack position on mine is relative to the engine cover shape plus I didnt take mine off until I had the new ones in hand so it was a no thinkem type deal. Maybe someone else has more for ya but thats about all I got for ya, hope it helps
