[QUOTE=strat250;3070400]If I was talking about something mild eg... turning the 225 into a 250... I am looking up part numbers is the only thing different between these two the computer? I can't see any difference in part numbers between the same year 225 efi and 250 efi when it comes to pistons, cranks, Injectors, fuel pumps, intake manifold etc...[/QUOTE
Correct....I think the differnce is the ECU box and probably porting in the block ? they even have the late style tuner with the idle relief ports (18) of them. Ask the pro's like Chaz ,Todd ....they know these engine and the 300X like the back of there hand .

I have one that's been cut like in the pic from Simmon MotorSports ....on the shelf. It came in a 300X driveshaft housing or mid -section ..it the late style tuner with the 18 idle relief ports in it . If any one wants to try a cut tuner , this way they dont have to cut there good one. If they want to go bad ? Dont want much for it ,shipping will eat most of the bill .Just PM me a price you want to pay for it ,we go from there .

So if we were to say break this down into stages... how far off would this be?
Stage 1 - ecu reflash (talked to Simon and they said 12-15 more HP)
Stage 2 - 250 HP - above plus tuner?
Stage 3 - 300 HP high compression heads plus above?
At what point would would see any benefit from lightened flywheel, porting fuel injectors, high flow pumps etc...
For the extreme 400hp what sort of mods are you talking?
There has to be a fairly easy way to squeeze 250 and 300hp out of these things given they are essentially the same.
This is of course specific to the 2002+ efi motors as they already have the downdraft I take and better tuners..
or or am I looking at this all wrong.
for me personally I would like to try to get this to 250hp with as little cash and craziness as possible and ideally retain the stock sound. Reason being I was able to run mid 70’s with a 28 pitch raker 2 prop with my evinrude 225 HO. Now I am having trouble spinning a 27 pitch tempest plus. I can only seem to squeeze out 5500 rpms and it just doesn’t have the mid range oomph or out of the hole go that the evinrude had. I know the evinrude was a 3.3 versus a 3.0 And the 225 ho is supposedly a 247hp motor.

Its crap because youre not built for it. Alcohol needs compression to make power probably in the area of 160 to 170 psi and it takes a 1/3 more fuel to reach optimal mixture. Im not sure if the mercury injectors can deliver enough fuel. But it is cheaper to almost offset the additional consumption. If youre built for it the benefits are huge.

It you want real performance gains out of your motor, 300x reed assembly with pink injectors, around 150 psi compression, cut tuner, ecu reflash. Cleaning up the ports, and the flow into the tuner, open up the exhaust chest. Presto, 300 plus hp.

Porting and exhaust flow are the keys to getting these big blocks to breath fire . Air in and out. Add gas to reach the needed air fuel ratio and you make more power. Not so easy unless you have a lot of knowledge of exactly what to cut and how much. Swapping the boxes, changing intakes and shaving the heads is the easy part...The rest you have to work for.
