2002 Mercury 225 EFI performance mods

What are some ideas and or combinations of parts to make this dog run like it's supposed to or better? XB heads? ProMax heads? ECMs? Reeds? What has worked for some of you guys?

Just got through doing this on my 225 carb motor.

4 butterfly intake, 250 efi fuel and 300 ign ECUs, Chris Carsons reeds.

If you want to cut the tuner go for it.

    That will wake her up.

You still have your stock heads? Mine has the ignition ecm on the side of the motor and as far as I can tell its the only one. Im wondering if the fuel and ignition are run out of the same box on the 2002 225s

So with the 555 ECM what do I need to do to squeeze some hp out of this thing. I know it needs more compression so I'm looking for suggestions as to what casting numbers to search for. And what ECM ro search for as well. I dont intend to do any tuner modifying although I would consider replacing with a 300 tuner. From what I've read on here the hot setup for previous years to mine was 300 ProMax ignition and 250 XB fuel ECMs but mine being a later model wont use the same ECMs.

I also have a 2002 225 EFI, trying to figure out what to do with this guy. I only see one ECM on mine as well. If you figure out what you're gonna do with yours let me know. Would love to compare notes.

If you have the one box or ECM you most likely have a down draft engine and the ECM has to be sent off and have flashed and have your heads cut . The 300X will hurt your bottom end or hole shot and be louder. Thats what i was told . I have a 2004 225 EFI with the one box and it is the down draft engine .
If any one want to mod there tuner or a mod tuner , i have one i would let go .That came out of my 300X Mid-section . it has been cut off about 6 inch , from the best i can remember . Going back stock .

So are are you talking about the exhaust tuner in the mid section needs to be cut, as well the heads need to be shaved, then there would be gains running the modified engine? What do you have that you want to sell and how much?

It is my understanding that the c2 castings are such high volume that it's of no benefit to cut them. And as far as a tuner is concerned ...if I can stick with the stock one I would probably rather do that. I dont really want it any louder.

No to get gains out of these motor's ...the ECM controll every thing .....so the box has to be flashed to get more gas and rpm range . And the heads cut to make up for the gain's. There are more like the Optimax motor 's. Thats how it was explain to me . then mods to the tuner to exhaust more ?

I do know on the 300X they have a 1 inch hole in the bottom of the tuner and after market are cut to get gains .

If I was talking about something mild eg... turning the 225 into a 250... I am looking up part numbers is the only thing different between these two the computer? I can't see any difference in part numbers between the same year 225 efi and 250 efi when it comes to pistons, cranks, Injectors, fuel pumps, intake manifold etc...
