Hydrostream folks
So, I have a good running Johnson 150 V6.2006 model. I can tell that my garage will not be complete without a hydrostream. I want something that I can safely run 65-plus in. Can this motor do that? And for this size motor which hull am I looking for? Vector is amazingly beautiful.. but could see that would start a horsepower war with my bank account. Any input appreciated as the hunt is on.
The prop on my boat is older than my ex-wife.

How many horsepower are we talkin to get that boat 65 mph? The reason I ask, the numbers that people are claiming seem to be all over the chart. I have searched all over the internet for comparison. My motor has a 20 inch mid, but I can address that. Then I read that some people are running the long shaft?

A 90 Horse, not set up very well at all, would push my Vandal to just shy of 60. A 150 on a Ventura, racing in JP class years ago, would run in the low 80s. You certainly ought to be able to get to the kind of speed you are looking for, though I don't know the bigger Hydrostream hulls well enough to know which one you might want. Also, understand that for those of us who grew up in the 60s and 70s, 15 inch was short shaft and 20 inch was a long shift. That may be why you're hearing about some people running long shaft.

I'd go with a v king. Keep in mind any of the 1st generation streams with original core and stringers are going to be rotten and in need of a recore. There is maybe 0.5% chance you will find an original boat that is a comp lay up or anomaly that is solid.

ventura or vking....if goal is 65ish with a v6 the vector is bad idea....they tend to hop in the mid range making you loose some rideability (is that even a word?) you dont wanna loose
vandal would be fun too!!81' HYDROSTREAM VECTOR / slightly Modified 200

First, thank you for the input. I'm safe if I buy one needing stringers/core.. don't laugh about this..my mom. She grew up on the river.. she was rebuilding boats from the ground up in her early teens. Early centuries and Chris Craft. Woodworker extraordinaire. Was also one of the better skiers in the Mid-Ohio Valley during the 60s..lol.. and still to this day one of the coolest moms out there. I have been searching ads all over the United States. It appears that Minnesota is infested with them. I have some vacation time coming, time to start making some appointments.

After reading about core/stringer rebuilding.. I think that I am going to buy a boat that has already had the work done. That is a far more involved process than I realized. At this age I have learned to pick my battles..lol

Vector, Viking it don`t matter. Both are good boats. I`ve had them both. Vectors drag race better, Vikings turn better. More hp than 150 will follow in the near future. Streams beg for hp.
PS: I love your sig about your prop. lol

Viking/V-king (same hull, different name) will hold the weight of your motor better. A Vector can be made to behave with an over weight motor but it requires a more experienced pilot. Not a boat that's fun to "cruise" in.

I'm funny about my toys.. modern boats look like a Clorox jug with an outdrive.. I am a product of the 70s, and my taste goes towards the early 70s boats. On my property, if it is aerodynamic, modern or easy to get parts for.. it doesn't belong here. I just watched my dad stroke out after retirement, I figure enjoy it now as I do not know what tomorrow brings.
