Bob's nose cone (changing gearlube)
Hi guys,

Unfortunately my CLE unit (gears) broke, and I'm not going to rebuild it... Now I have an other lower unit with a Bob's nose cone on it. The guy from who I bought it installed the cone, and it needs a little refurbish... One thing I'm struggling what to do with the filling plug for the gearlube.. This because it's very close to the nose cone. How to make it "smooth" or "nice"... Who has some examples?

Something like this..

You can swap the carrier with your CLE so you can fill it through the carrier and fill that hole in completely. If ya wanna keep it the way it is, you want to teardrop the hole, the leading edge toward cone keeps a nice sharp edge and the trailing edge toward prop gets smoothed and laid back to prevent turbulence

I always filled the hole with black silicone to make a smooth plug. Would think it would come out, but it won't. Just pop it out change gear oil. Re silicone. Easy

The CLE used a different diameter prop shaft bearing, if he's using the CLE shaft it will work fine

@ FORBESAUTO, I will keep that in my mind... Has every CLE unit carrier this filling plug?
@C.Isane, so if I want to swap the carrier, I also have to swap the shaft bearing... Is that correct? When I check, I see both 88957T.... It;s a 2 hole CLE gearcase:

Some CLE had the drain plug in the bullet like mine. Later ones had the drain plug in the carrier. If yours is in the carrier and there is nothing wrong with your CLE prop shaft swap them both into your 200 case, and fill the old drain hole with epoxy, sand smooth.
Other wise you can weld up the head of a drain plug index it and grind it flush with the cone, cut a screwdriver slot in it and voila.

I used a 3/8 (I believe) socket head cap screw with the threads cut to the length of the drain plug. The head filled the relief in the epoxy pretty well.
