Why are 91 2.4/2.5 blocks banned in some classes

I see some rules single out 91's and am wondering why?
The 7 petal front on the 2.5's
Can't tell bore if a 2.4 or 2.5 without looking inside?
Is there a difference between these motors(2.5) and a "newer" 93 or 94?

7 petal front is why.......other than 91 all the other 2.5 "fishing motors" have the smaller reed blocks

Ken, i've seen porting differences in 3 different 91 blocks ive built. the one on my boat had very similar port heights to a 260. the other 2 i built had the exhaust port .100" lower than mine and idle relife nothches. i smacked the chest open on mine and it runs 110 with a small prop and turns 9k lol i kind of wish i didnt cut it because it would of made a formula class killer untill they chage the rules again up here.

Boomer my limited experience tells me that a "killer" drag boat of any kind is more about puttin' a rig together, getting out there and steppin' on the pedal then it is shoulda/coulda/woulda.. You need to attend an event and see how much tighter the racin' is now.

Better yet bring a boat and find out firsthand.

what ken said... i spent a ton of TIME and a bit of money making my boat competative. i agreed at the agm and voted to make a couple changes to slow myself down but that wasnt good enough for the club, this spring the 2018 rules were listed and everything has changed my boat no longer fits comfortably in any class. i could race and likely still win the new class but im over it. this summer i ran on the lake I had as much if not more fun waking up early and running for 50 plus miles every Sunday to eat breakfast with a great group of friends.

I'm reading this as the organizers couldn't beat you so they used the rule book to get rid of you. In racing there is no greater prize than being the one responsible for rule change. Look at the Hemi, its the only engine ever banned in Nascar as a result of its dominance. Lets see some vids of this badass rig!!!

Well if you want to go that route on who wasn't even allowed to play? If the Frances didn't snowball Smokey Yunick? He would have bested them all over and over and over again, using a lawnmower engine if need be. That man knew how to build a race car and his quote stands true to this day; In racing theres two types of racers; cheaters and losers

Wasn’t the timing chain what sidelined the cammer when the 426 came out ford and Pontiac cried foul that design is the staple today hail to the hemi !
