Boating cost and the new one hundred dollar bill

So Scott Porta and I were talking the other day about what some of our current projects are costing along with the cost of new trucks, our daily restaurant lunch expenses etc. and how frustrated you can get if you dwell on what it takes to maneuver in todays world. We both agreed that the cost of things today will be the least expensive opportunity to purchase that we will ever have "prices don't go down, they only continue upward". So instead of getting worked up over something that we will never be able to control, we all need to change our perspective and look at a new $100.00 bill as if its a twenty $20.00. If you do this, things seem to fall back into line and you won't find yourself complaining.

The new one hundred dollar bill will do the same thing that the old twenty did.

    Decent dinner for two
    Fill your truck with gas
Take the boat out for a few hours and make a stop for lunch
Buy a new pair of shorts and a tee shirt
    Buy a pair of shoes
    etc.
    etc.
    etc.

Give it a try and see how it helps your personal outlook... Below is a picture of the new fives "aren't they great"

Ive sat on the back of one of our cruisers two different times (and different boats) and figured what it cost to own them for 12 months to be able make a monthly budget.
After finalizing my expense calculations I sold the first one and the second I did it for is now for sale.

Smartest guy I ever knew, worked for me 20 yrs ago, making $8 per, and knowing my addiction to boats said, "boats are a great thing for a friend to own".
    I think I fired him.

Saw a shirt recently that said, "I'm the friend with the boat".

Thx Joe. Taking the Mrs out for dinner/drinks tonight.
    Ill try your theory.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

I was forced to do the math the other day but basically a new 400r is actually cheaper than an old 260 when you account for inflation.

It's good see Mercury getting real , this new motor looks like a real breakthrough in design .

I agree with your post in general, however the economy is cyclical. I couldn't believe the hardware guys were trying to give away in 2008-2010. Unbelievable buys if you played your cards right back then.

One thing that has always remained true in this past time is that you need to be comfortable with constantly pissing away money and never, ever keep track.

I adjust my comment for one item. $100 to this site is the best deal in performance boating. Now pony up!

And all that explanation made me just like the Argo a lil better! Cheapest date with a boat I have ever had! Cheap on fuel, easy to tow, so no big trucks, cant take a lot of moochers, so its clear what your payin for, and easy to store! Same gear case since I bought it, no funny business! I went out last Thursday afternoon, late evening with a little over 1/4 tank per side, ran for an hour , 1.5, thought I might get another hour or 2 in, so I stopped and put 6 gallons a side! Went as long as I could before sunset. Still had some left over! Its definitely a low budget operation THANKS JP!!
