I was wondering why i heard sonic booms !
In my area we always have the Air National Guard flying overhead out of PDX,but they always fly around mello and never carry much speed. So friday evening i am outside working on my boat getting it ready for the weekend and i hear them take off and smash the throttles, and shorty after they went ripping over my house Hauling Azz like never before. At that point you know something is not right,so i run inside to see if there is anything on the TV about it...and i was blown away to see this https://youtu.be/DstWZY_eUOc

Yeah that’s a bad deal. Not excusing the young man’s actions but he obviously having some mental issues but at least somewhat concerned with not hurting anyone, to his knowledge. With that said, there’s not another mechanical sound any finer than a modern fighter on the burners scorching the sky. Authoritive, sexy, demanding, poetic and the finest offering of horsepower music I’ve ever heard.

That island about 10 miles east of me across the water. Didn't know it until the news.

Only time i have seen jets scramble like that was 9/11.Blows my mind that the Air National Guard can be 170 miles away on there target in under 10 minutes from the go call.

Yep! Portland 90 miles south me. Hour 1/2 at 60 mph. At 750 mph (or more),8 minutes! Surprised that nothing scrambled from McCord AFB. as right there? I'm under the flight path into McCord and see choppers, C 17's, C 130s (freaking WORK HORSE!) more daily. As the jets. As a Nam 69 Vet, ears always perk up when heard! One night, out in the shop. I'm 60 miles from coast. See 2 jets coming over heading to the coast. Then SEE the twin afterburners cans light up, and then the NOISE! Love aviation. Flown myself with friends (no rating me, just .."You have the airplane".) Been up with my Nephew with a Aero rating, out Santa Paula CA. Champion Decatalon tandem seat tail dragger. Did stalls, hammers, loops, rolls as inverted. Lotta fun!

I am a plane addict ! Then again,it's in the family,it started with my father being a lifer at Grumman in long island.Come Oct 2nd i will be living at the end of the runway in Norfolk Va :. As for the Decathlon,Thats some of the most fun ya can have with your clothes on.As for what happened in your neck of the woods, that must have been some crazy chit to watch as it all unfolded...Also got to wonder how this changes things nationwide at airport's,i have worked on airsides many times and security is a nightmare to deal with, sure that will really ramp up after this incident.

maybe now they will put ignition keys in all the planes..... funny how they make cars and trucks secure, but anyone with knowledge of how to start and fly a plane is able to steal one. A lot of the small airports have virtually zero security, anyone can walk in with a few duffle bags of explosives, snatch a plane and turn it into a real bad day.

Yep on the Decath! My Neph wanted SO bad to go in the service and fly jets, then on to airline pilot. But born with one bad kidney, so not taken. He's been up to Mooneys, more. Simple loves flying! I was living Illinois way back when when had to fly out SoCol for a event at my brothers. To Santa Paula rented a Champ. Fog lifted at 11 am, and up. Back at 1 as Jeff had to be at the event at 3. Event? HE WAS GETTING MARRIED AT 3! HA!

And back in Illinois my buddy Vic took me up a V tail Bonanza. Damn, that witch has balls! Damn near 45 degree climb and stall horn blaring! Vic says over the Clarks.."ignore it, that for the stupid". Well he has progressed now to flying a private Citation Jet. Big wigs rent the plane. He's based Denver now, but been up this way to visit when ferrying a owner/builder a Ski resort BC. In Revelstoke. Had a lay over Sea tac. Pic plane, and over Mt Shasta, Mt St Helens. and here. We been snow ski friends LONG time, and he's a DAMN great skier!
I gotta photo bomb here, as my stuff and I'm SOOO good looking! (Debatable.....)

From what I read that Guy was a hell of a pilot , that was a big plane he was flying in loops , looked like he was going to crash the water then pulling up at the last second over a hour toying with it , they think he might have run out of fuel, they said those jets broke the sound barrier to get to him and keep him away from populated areas.
