No spark in one cylinder 89 evinrude 225

Hey guys got my 89 evinrude 225 out today ran fine then on the way to the dock it sounded like it dropped a cylinder and the top starboard cylinder has no spark I swapped coils and still had no spark in the same cylinder with a different coil so does that mean it's my cdi

Could also be the timer base. you'll need to do an ohm reading on it. Look up the CDI trouble shooting book on their site, it gives you all the specs and how to check the components.

Really I didn't think that the timer base would cause one cylinder not to spark but u might be on to something cause when I put it in gear and give it gas it just dies u would think it would still run if it was just one cylinder not running

Now you are describing different symptoms..... How did you check for spark? did you use a spark checker or just pull the wire off while it was running? Did you swap plug wires? Are you sure you are losing only one cylinder? One cylinder not firing won't make it die, but if the whole bank were to drop, then maybe. If your'e dropping the entire stbd bank, it could be the shift interrupter switch engaging due to a stiff shift shaft or it could be a bad stator. Did you check the compression?

I pulled all the plugs plugs out and held each one on the block while turning it over only one had no spark I swapped the coil/wire and spark plug with one that was working and the same cylinder had no spark with a different coil
