    Ramdom or no fire

Hey Guy's,,1st time on this site....1990 JOHNSON 225(looper)...When I got the motor 3 yrs ago it had a failing stator,,,I jerry rigged from another burnt stator a copule of the coils & made mine work..That lasted about a year and a half or so then my stator totally fried....Replaced with a new OEM stator & to be safe a OEM Pwr pack.....That worked for while and then stated random fire(fire today none tomorrow) I found my new 3-4 month old stator was fried...I then replaced with another OEM stator & a OEM voltage regulator..... It once again worked for while & then random fire again...I the replaced with a OEM new trigger so @ this point all electrical has been replaced with OEM new & still random fire.....Since Hurricane Harvey I have swaped pwr packs & a couple of stators that were used,,,same thing pwr today none tomorrow,,,maybe the rt bank today maybe the lf tomorrow & then one time all hit & I ran it for 2 weeks in the driveway making sure it was not going to fail..The day I hooked up to the truck to get back in the water NO FIRE I even have swapped flywheels around....I am totally disconnected from the helm gang plug,,,,,black & yellow kills all 3 that are on the engine are disconnected...I have worked in the automotive/diesel mechanical field so i'm not a total dumb ass,,,, two boat shops that I deal with can't figure out it & both stated it has to have fire but I don't....At this point I have fire on #2 only...I am so depressed Anyone that can please give me your 2cents worth it would be greatly appreciated....I am open to calls also,,,i'm desperate 361.249.8722

I'm not a omc guy so I don't wanna steer you wrong,,I will say my buddy has a small omc that's doing the same thing, so I will stay tuned. Good luck

To me it means looking for something lose or broken wire, fuse (the bus type can do that)

and thats a lot of testing ohm and v-drop, and you can miss because it was good when tested.

Stator OHMed out OK,,,,even compared readings with 2 other used stators,,,,mine is only a few months old considerating I've been down for a year,,,,,,still @ this time the pwr pack is only sending fire to #2,,,,,I'm wondering when my prior stator burned it possibly did something to the new pwr pack I had replaced.....Something is burning out the stators & the problem dominoes from there,,,I'm going to do more elec checks again this weekend,,,,the frustration is killing me cause I hate to lose so I a'int giving up.

Sounds like it is not turning over fast enough to generate spark. They need to turn a minimum of 250RPM on the starter to have spark on all cylinders.

Already did that,,put 3 different starters on it & all three ran the same speed,,,the battery is hot so it's something else,,,,Thanx,,,keep throwing ideas,,,,keep this in mind,,,it ran for ten days straight a coulple months back then started the ramdon fire again only this time the fire continually is only on #2,,,,before all this now sometimes the rt bank would hit,,,sometimes the lf,,,,I've never seen anything like this

Disconnecting the kill , black /yellow st, anywhere but at the pack is not completely eliminating that part of the system..still could have a ground or partial resistance to ground on the pwrhead harness or interupter harness/switch.. just to make sure, you dont have the cdi high performance system do you... everyone i know with this system has had random issues.. Are you checking with plugs in or out.. I know it seems stupid but a weak starter/ bad connection/cables/ battery can drive you nuts one one of these engines they have to turn over fairly fast to have cranking spark.. Put a battery charger on with start capability when its not firing and see what happens..Just eliminating problems because sounds like you have changed just about everything else..Dave
