New owner of a 1972 Wriedt Spoiler 16’ Merc 1500

Just picked this up last week. Been trying to research some information on these hulls and have not come up with much. Seems most of them were rigged for jet boats. Any information would be appreciated.

Looks like a sidewinder which was one of the coolest boats I ever owned. Actually mine was a rallysport which was a splash of a sidewinder. I know I said the S word. Very nice

There was a restored Wriedt on the lake a couple years ago. He had a 90 hp OMC 2 stroke on it. It ran real nice.

That's a splash of a 16 SS Sidewinder. From the Fiberglassics site:In 1971, Ken Baker, president of Sidewinder Marine, Inc. in Palo Alto, California was in litigation over a lawsuit filed by Sidewinder Marine against twenty manufacturers, who had copied the revolutionary Super Sidewinder design, first produced in 1970. Imitators included Marlin, Tahiti, Wriedt, and Taylor. In 1971/72 production moved from Palo Alto to Anderson, CA. and by July 1972, at least four manufacturers had admitted infringement on the Sidewinder design patents. About 1971 Canadian Sidewinder production moved to Ontario, where, by 1972, they were manufactured as Sidewinders - not Cobras, by California Glass Marine.

Thanks for all the input I appreciate it. The boat is mostly original so I will keep going in that direction in the hopes of getting it to a show boat status!!

Just purchased a 71 Wriedt 16 ft boat. Is anyone familiar with the serial numbers on these. It doesn’t have a HIN being before 73. The registration paperwork has some numbers on it but do not know what one is the serial number. Also anyone know where you could get a new windshield?

Had a 1976 infinity Del Magic with a 115 Merc. It was my first boat out of college. Great little ski boat. It accelerated like crazy and would top out at near 50 MPH. Must have been one of the knock-offs, but still a great boat!

I bought a new Canadian 16 ft Sidewinder SS around 1979. Started with an 85 HP Merc and switched to an inline 6 with 140 HP. Chine walked very bad but I built a homemade hydraulic jack plate for it and once you got the lower out of the water it ran with almost no chine walking. It turned a 24 chopper and ran about 65 mph if I recall correctly. We really liked that boat at that point in our lives.
