    Evinrude Crossflow Block Help!

    Hey all,

I cracked my '84 V4 Crossflow 90hp block. Everything else is good, except a piston, which I bought new.

So, can I use a 1990 115hp Crossflow block? I know the porting is different, but my crank and pistons and everything else should just pop right in, right?

Better yet, will any V4 Crossflow block play well with my internals and peripherals? It's hard finding a 90hp block that's affordable, but there's plenty of 115s and 135s.

    Thanks a ton!

You’ll want to steer clear of the old 135’s. They are all the “old” style (‘76 and older). I think ‘77’s had some peculiarities but I’m no expert. If you’re picking up a complete motor just run it, keep your stuff for spares. Down here I’ve come across runners in the 200-500 range, often attached to a worthless hull...

What if I'm just doing the block? Will the post 79 blocks work with my guts?

if your going to that mush trouble, use all the tuned exhaust system and the larger carbs in the old 140 head hp or the 115 shaft hp. the difference in the porting is small. there is also a small 0.5 x 1.0" gap in the exhaust web of the block of the tuned motors [ not in the 135hp].

Just to close the loop. Picked up a 1979 140. I'll just swap the power head onto mine.
