I have been talking to Lisa at Mercury racing on pretty much a weekly basis since July on my 300R order and its progress. I also spent a day at Mercury in June and got a better feel for their situation. Steering production, durability testing, and product final approval is not a fast process. That is why we are just now seeing the wing plate offshore models in the streets.

    1. They are quoting lead times that they know they can beat "under promise and over deliver".
    2. They are building multiple new facilities and production lines for their newly released and soon to be released products. After these additions and additional production lines are completed and running you will not see the crazy lead times of today-things are only going to get better.

Mercury has had to deal with the perfect storm for product demand. First Trumps economy turn around and second the release of the best outboard model ever made combined to cause way more demand then they had anticipated. I hope that they are able to capitalize on the their new production capabilities before the economic cycle slows down.

I'm curious, by what metric is this truck motor even measurably better than previous or current 300Hp outboards? Let alone "best ever".

I'm gonna give it " Most good enough for a vertical truck motor new model outboard this year"

    Seriously though,
Is it lighter than any previous or current 300hp?
    Smaller?
    More efficient?
    Hydrodynamic?
    Stronger?
    Simpler?
    Cheaper?
    More corrosion resistant?

Best ever is a big stretch

Does “faster”, “most powerful”, “most user friendly”, or “most torque” 300 count for anything?

Bring your current 300 to run against it and you will see the answer to most of your questions. Less expensive and better don't go together in any new product that I am aware of. You really need to experience one before you make judgement. I was the last guy that would consider going to a four stroke when the inline 6 was the only option (it was too heavy, too expensive, and wouldn't outrun my current 300 based motors) this new motor is lighter, less money, uses less fuel, has a much stronger gear case, and will outrun my current stuff-makes it the best in my book.

Oh and truck motors are diesel-

Torque is real metric to go by.
The rest are all subjective and not measurable.
    1 point for truck motor.

Lighter than what 300? Not a 3 litre not a drag.
The gear case is bigger, it ought to be stronger, less hydrodynamic as well.
Less expensive and better don't usually go together, no, but this motor should be less expensive because it's not better.

Yeah, all my truck motors are diesel, you got me there.
I'll call it a big sedan motor then. They might have been better off going diesel with size boats there marketing these towards.

Power is completely measurable, as is speed. User friendliness is subjective but anyone thinking an old 2-stroke is anywhere near a modern 4-stroke in user-friendliness is not thinking rationally.

I believe he was claiming it's lighter than the old 300hp Supercharged I6 Pro Verado, my question is it really only 7lbs heavier than the 3.2L 2-stroke 300XS?
