I got a price today for a 225 pro xs v8 fully rigged for $20,142.68 . Unfortunately my hull is rated for 225 and no one wants to sell me a 250. I'd love to hear that these new v8's can be tuned to make the full 300hp.

175-225 use the smaller throttle body and 250-300 use the larger throttle body, so only the 250 will be able to be turned up to 300 with just a tune. Though a throttle body swap may be possible on the 200&225 as the intake part # is the same on the less powerful V8s.

Where can I find the schematics?

Are they using a different TB or just a reducer like on some of the smaller motors? Haven't had time to look through the schematic

    https://www.mercurymarine.com/en/us/.../parts-catalog

They show two different part # throttlebodies, a 64mm and 80mm.

They also have two different design intakes now listed I noticed a single piece and a two piece.

As far as i know the coast guard spec sticker is only required when boat is sold new. I have owned several under 21 ft boats that i seemed to have lost the coast guard plate.

Yeah the 2-piece wasn't listed initially and the V6 still only shows a 1-piece intake, guess initially the V8 had a 2-piece and they changed it for some reason to the design II 1-piece intake.

What do you guys think about the v8's having a counter ballancer running off of the timing chain? I keep picturing it coming apart if someone hit something solid with the prop.

Eh, I'm not worried. You would probably blow up the lower unit before the timing chain comes apart or skips. Besides there are alot of v8s with balance shafts that seem to be just fine.

A whole year to wait on motors really!!
Demand might be high but when mercury released these motors only couple hundred had to have been built. More reason I say built on order

It’s tough to make 4-stroke oiling work on a chainsaw that must operate in any orientation. Apparently stihl is doing it though. Anyway, luckily, outboards don’t need to operate upside down or on its side.

They are 4 strokes, but use pre-mix. No crank case oil.
