The guy said 21k for the 250 pro xs. He said it will be even higher by the time he gets one on the showroom floor next year.

I actually changed my order from the pro xs to the regular. I ordered back in may and jacos still didn't know when it would come but they had the regular 300l in stock. unfortunately for me fed ex put it right in the path of hurricane Michael and it has been sitting in Fairborn GA for week hoping it starts moving soon.

That’s seems to be similar in price to the optimax

I don't think that price includes rigging and controls. That's too much money for a damn outboard.

They will never be any less then they are today. My dad said that when he paid 5k in 81" for a V-6 outboard nobody could believe it. The inflationary pattern has proven itself-its never going to change, just a lower percentage of consumers will be able to buy new.

If you think that's expensive don't look at the performance inboard prices

My F-150 had a sticker price of 50k. So far at 64k miles i'd say it's a turd. I miss owning a simple truck that's easy to repair. Maybe I should be thinking the same with outboards?

My 1990 F250 4x4 with a 460 is now the most dependable, vehicle I have ever owned. 300k miles on orig eng. and running gear. My new ferd will never make it that far. Been a real pia with repairs..Shame cause it's a nice strong motor in a over complicated platform.

My 2013 ecoboost started rattling on cold startups the day after the factory warranty ran out. I'm looking at a 2k plus repair bill. I have no interest in doing it myself after reading about what's involved. Some techs remove the cab to make it easier. Insanity!

Being a new design there are always questions of reliability. I look at the verado and am amazed at how well they last being a supercharged i6. The new Na v8 should be a reliable work horse for many many years. If not every one will switch to Yamaha. The only thing I would worry about is if the electronics fail with all the new features. Especially that lean out for better mpg, I'll be putting in an after market a/f gauge with alarm for piece of mind

I remember back in the 80's in Australia, you could by a classic USA muscle car ( many done to order)frame off restore ( done in Australia) new leather interior, reco engine, updated brakes and suspension etc etc, same price as a new car.
Punters said why not, simple and cheap to fix and it will appreciate in value, got new car feel.
Only reason to buy new is to ensure warantee covers it the whole time you own it.

This is kind of what I was thinking too... With all the unknowns with the new motor, the expense of a new set up possibly changing cables/set back/props etc. The fact that we only have about a 5 month boating season. The lakes around here are small so the big motor never gets time on it so the warranty will do me no good. Plus the fact that I'm just a working man all puts the new set up out of range for me... I opted to put a 300xs power head on my 225... Add the fact that if this power head ever fails, I can rebuild it myself. Not saying the new motor isn't going to be good, just saying that after all the new set up that may be required, 30k is too much for me to spend. It's really becoming a rich mans game.

From jacos with extended warranty shipped to my dealer was 21k. +1200 for a prop a rigging and I'm at 22-23k for the whole setup. I expect 8 years of trouble free boating before selling and buying another. With average 3.5% per year inflation I expect to pay 30-31k for the next engine. I was real close to buying the 2 stroke but I think resale is going to be real tough in 8 years
