1989 black max stalling
Ok At first when at idel without thermostats after 5 min. the water start to get so hot it steams. When I tried to accelerate it stalls at 3k.
I changed the advance timing module, stator, trigger and had carbs torn down cleaned and replaced. Compression is 125 +1-1 on all six.
Fuel pump looks good. And all coils are getting good spark. I thought carbs were running lean . Explaining hot cooking water. But I cant figure it out.

Why have you removed the thermostats?

Over heating. They were stuck closed. I removed and ordered new ones. The water was very very hot. 200 or so. What temperatures do the thermostat open?

Only time my 1988 XR4 got hot was when the LU impeller needed replacement.

I think 143 degrees. I wouldn't run it until you put new stats in it. Do you have a water psi gauge?

Is water comming out of the pisser?
Is water comming out of the prop?
Jave you looked at the water pump impeller?
Have you had the lower unit off?
Is the water tube attatched correctly?

The water pressure is around 10 psi. easy. I only running it for a few min. Before she gets to hot. I'm swapping out the front half today. I think it's running lean.

If the water system was fine what would cause it to over heat. Lean motor?

Lean two strokes dont typically live long enough to over heat. They simply meltdown. Try a colder spark plug maybe and see if it changes, that will help isolate if its lean or not. You mentioned you rebuilt the carbs so? What fuel do you run? Take fuel filter off and cut open to inspect and replace. Try some high octane and make sure whatever you run there is no ethanol content. These old motors dont like eth
Your sure your gauge is accurate? Heat gun test? Nothing inhaled blocking anything?Hydrostream dreamin

Will do. I ran an external tank of 89 with a 20 ounce to 6 gallon mix. 32:1. I'll check lines. Maybe change them and filter.

I'll shoot it with temp gun. Carb was dirty and missing top jet.
What is the barb fitting at the bottom starburt side. Its pluged but I think that was after oil injection. Witch has been removed. I'll take pics of plugs and talk tail

Removing thermostats will make the motor run very hot cuz there is nothing holding water in the block long enough to remove some of the heat.
