Marine ply is best, really not that much more money for what you get. Either resin coated wood or glassed over wood is ok for going against the existing trans. Going to have putty in the gap anyway.

Resin and silica is a good putty mix. You will learn by doing just like all of us did when we started.

Glue and glass. Then glass some more......Don't be stingy with the resin when glassing over wood...

The silica is called fumed silica. Made just for thickening resins and gelcote. It is a fine powder like flour. Cab-o-sil is one brand name...

Voodoo... You can use dowel rod or putty. I usually only apply a max of 2 layers of glass at a time. It assures a good bond.

Right on. I've heard of carbosil before but when I read silica I got to thinking about the 100lb bags I buy and use in my sandblaster and thought what grit? I think there is three avail at my local supply. But it sure aint West systems and its not floury so as you gusy can see im super green with this glass mat work. I'm learning though, thanks for the info
