Trim tabs for 22 Progression?
I am a new P22 owner this year. My boat has a 300 XS with 10" of setback. I'm obviously still learning how to drive it. One thing I've noticed is it likes to porpopise under 45 mph. If I increase speed it goes away. I have two props for the boat. A Bblades 30P blaster and a 26P FXOB for carrying a loaded boat with people and gear. Boat porpoises with either prop. Would trim tabs solve this low speed issue? If so what size? From what I've read for this size hull 24" tabs would do the trick? I boat on a 12 mile lake that gets pretty busy on weekends and can get rough on windy days as well. I know they won't help me learn how to drive the boat but can they hurt to have?
Thanks!

I like the tabs ability to control the boats attitude. Stops low speed hop, planes boat at a lower speed, less bow rise at plane off, and adjusts for passengers weight in back of boat. Tabs at high speeds can be dangerous though. Lenco is the one you want. Mount them as per instructions. Use the biggest tabs that will fit. Bigger is better.

I have a 22 progression pretty much the same setup as you but I have 380 k planes on it. First off I haven’t had the boat very long so I do not have that much seat time yet, but what I will say is those k planes just below the bottom of the boat make the world of a difference, I can run 80 mph in some snotty water.
one thing I will say from one new p22 owner to another is learn how to run the boat first before you consider a large tab like that. They change the handling characteristics of the boat ALOT. First thing Kevin from progression told me when I got the Boat is do not run the tabs down until you can drive it.
I find myself putting the tabs down whenever it gets rough and I’m realizing that I’m not truely learning the characteristics of the boat with those babies below the bottom. But boy when it’s rough can I rip through some nasty stuff.
Also Where abouts in mass are you, we should get together,

Thanks for the reply and info! Good to hear about the rough water handling with the tabs too! Just what I wanted to hear! I probably won't do anything until the off season so I'll get in a lot more seat time. I live in Mass. but boat in Maine. I am on Long Lake which connects to Sebago so there's a lot of water to run on up there! Any chance you could post a pic of your tabs? I want to know where to mount them when the time comes.
Thanks! Chris

Thanks for the pics! Do you know if they were mounted at Progression when the boat was built?

they were put on by the PO, but Kevin at Progression has them as an option and highly recommends them.

You dont need them imo there just added weight. Yes driving a p22 is definitely a learning experience and they do tend to be bow flighty. This boat needs a lot of seat time to run it to its capabilities but once you sit passenger to an experienced driver youll be quite surprised what it can do. Imo leave off with the trim tabs work on the setup and just keep mounting up the hours. This hull has a sweet spot, most ppl tend to run her trimmed too high which your experiencing with the porpoising.

I mean when your running offshore in 4s and up yes they do replicate running a larger boat. I was where you are when i was learning to drive this boat and mu two friends swore up and down it doesnt need them. After watching them at the wheel i listened and learned. Im still learning for that matter. Having the right attitude before and working the throttle made the world of difference going over wakes and rogue waves. I didnt believe it for mu own eyes til i saw an experienced driver jump in my boat and drive the hell out of it. My boat is even more flighty than yours, i dont have an offshore mid and i habe 12 inches of setback

I completely understand where you are coming from, as I know I truly can’t drive the boat to it’s full potential.
But all I know from my experience is when I’m on a narrow part of the river after 50 boats just went by during a fun run and I’m still able to run the boat 80mph next to 30ft boats. I just can’t see a 22 SOB running without tabs at that speed. Now i would love to be proved wrong. So I can take them off and run even faster, but until I see a SOB beat me in nasty rough water without tabs they are staying on.
