Video of new top speed - Vintage Frankenmerc

Just renewed my membership and thought I'd post this to celebrate.

New top speed of 63mph for the 1961 Merc 800, built and highly modded by Doc Frankenmerc (Thom Adams). I've shown the boat before on this site, and thought this speed achievement was worth another video.

24" small eared chopper, just over 5700rpm. Sorry about the poor sound - the mic cord disconnected somehow.

    Pete

Yeah, 90cid; the engine started out as an 800 short shaft; a completely rebuilt 1964 1000 power head was subsequently installed, along with solid state ignition. I have quite a few videos on YouTube, search for my channel "peter1708".

Hi Robby, good to hear from you! She's a runner alright, I'm really impressed with this engine that Doc built. I've been on the water at least 3 times a month since March, and the engine is rock solid. Still get compliments at the launch; seems like everyone had one of these iconic White Mercs in their youth, raced 'em or knew someone who did Construction on HWY101 around Lake Crescent was a hassle earlier this year (delays, etc), but the repaved road is a joy to drive now. Looking forward to the boat show again this year.

    Pete

I recall seeing an Eltro for sale in the back of Wooden Boat magazine some years ago, the ad ran for at least 2 or 3 issues. I drooled over that boat, it was very, very cool and was a nice change from the usual wood sailboats you'd see in the classifieds. I believe this one was painted white, but I could be mistaken. I tried to find other images of an Eltro online, never could locate any. The boat looked like a lot of fun and had style! Pete
