thin standoff plate and outboard studs
I am trying to get my boat back in the water after a deck and transom rebuild.
I will initially be using the land and sea jackplate that came with the boat. It takes 9/16-12 studs instead of the usual 1/2-13. I can't find any common outboard rigging studs in this size. The ones that came on it are too short for the 3" thick transom that I built.
I am thinking that this stainless threaded rod would be a good choice to make studs out of: https://www.mcmaster.com/#98805a209/=1dqmnnx
I would normally use 316 stainless but its more than 10x more expensive.
Also to clear the trim I need to stand the jackplate off about 1/2". Could I use starboard for that or is aluminum the minimum?
Are there any other recommendations preferably for non metals that would work to stand off the transom?
Thanks

I am thinking that FRP plate would be a pretty good standoff material: https://www.mcmaster.com/#8537k26/=1dqnrn7
I would cut it into 2 12"x6" strips and use it between the jackplate and transom covering the entire area of the jackplate that would normally make contact with the transom and then some.
This whole setup is only temporary, I am trying to get the boat back in the water so I can decide on a more permanent setup.Last edited by colinJ; 07-16-2018 at 12:39 PM.

You could use wood.... it's just a spacer.. but the stuff you are looking at should be great. You could tap out the holes for 1/2 studs. Mercury made plastic motor mounts.....so at 12/6 inches your good.
