These Salwater-series fish motors are everywhere and I want to follow what others have done here in these incredible pages of S&F, and that is to use the generic "fish" motor in high-perf applications.

    I hope I don't regret it.

back to long term goals....I wish to have a spare powerhead in the garage for when I blow up a motor, my (short) summer will still be salvageable by using a spare powerhead

What's wrong with "fishing motors?" This one's powered my 1992 22 Progression since new.

yes, I agree with you toostroked.

If I can pull this off, I will have another complete and running Optimax in the garage should I blow up a motor during the boating season.

Fiber reeds are the only way to prevent serious damage. I run 3 optis and a 200 EFI 2.5l merc. All have fiber reeds. Seems from my experiences the opti's send the reed parts to #4 cylinder. Don't know why....

which fiber reeds do you use Xstream?

That is just too much of a coincidence that #4 gets the metal parts....muhahahaha

I'm sure Chris Carson has the info and the reeds. Good guy, call him.. I run his reeds with no problems. EDIT....I run the regular reeds, not the hi po ones.

#4 looks more like detonation was the cause.
But repair looks pretty simple with some honing and new piston.

Wow, those are for drag and spins at 10,000

The petal count is 6 petals, so you use 2 side-by-side?

Which Opti uses a 3-petal reed cage? Mine all have a 5-petal rubber coated cage with carbon reeds.

One pedal covers 2. Little stiffer that way, better to control flutter at high rpms. I use 2 petal on my 4 petal 2.5’s l, work very well

    ForbesAuto,

Did you cut yours so that it fits or did Chris Carson deliver the reeds that way?
