oh man, I'm a rookie at this, but I plan to expose and share my experiences so that other rookies can follow this as a model.
The work done will not be cheap but what I've noticed is that everyone pays a premium to run with the best (300X, 300XS), and rightfully so. You want the best, you pay for it.
These Salwater-series fish motors are everywhere and I want to follow what others have done here in these incredible pages of S&F, and that is to use the generic "fish" motor in high-perf applications.
I hope I don't regret it.
back to long term goals....I wish to have a spare powerhead in the garage for when I blow up a motor, my (short) summer will still be salvageable by using a spare powerhead

Darn tootin. Theres lots of good cores for the ambitious gear heads to work with out there and seemingly fewer and fewer good mechanics to build em so for guys like us who like to work? Plenty of goodies to be had and found. I dont know jack squat about Opti engine yet so this is a good opportunity for us both in this thread and if I can help in anyway along the process for you then doubly good.
