You want the plastic......It lasts longer. Rubber likes plastic .... spins off brass......

The brass vs plastic thing was discussed a few years ago on here. It seems at that time guys were saying brass was better than plastic, if I remember right. Ive always respected Dave S opinions. Now I dont know what to think. I just bought one with a brass insert from Doug Russell Marine.

I don't think it makes much difference. Had a tech in Florida tell one of my customers the plastic was not good and the brass developed 2 lbs more pressure. I guess whatever it takes to sell something just not the way I do things.

For whatever reason, they put the plastic ones in the outboards and the brass ones in the sterndrives...... I have seen more brass hubs spin than plastic ones fwiw

Split the hub on the plastic ones under some ridiculous circumstances. Never had issue one with the brass.

If you have a mundane set up it matters not, saltwater I'd use the plastic. Freshwater with a spinner, brass. I broke 2 plastic hubs with my 2.0 champ motors. Brass, never, ever had a problem in 32 years. Maybe things are different in Florida

I could see plastic splitting...Brass never, just when they get old and not replaced the plastic don't slip off the rubber. If you change yearly brass should be good to use.
