250R 300R Sportmaster vs 3.0 Sportmaster
Since they are using the 350/400 Verado Sportmaster it seems.. gear wise they should be much more reliable in this "Lower" HP range. I also like the idea of electronic shift...
However
I think I read the verado sportmaster is a bigger diamter? Does this make all of my props worthless? Right now I really like the Promax and Hydromotive XOB props on my allison...
Just curious if the bigger diamter case will cause major setup issues......

The propshaft is the same and any prop on a 3L sportmaster will fit the 400r/new 300r gearcase.

Doesnt matter. Like running an over hub exhaust with a cleaver.

The bullet is bigger but the rear of the bullet and where the exhaust exits it gets a bit smaller.
The thru hub props will match up.

The new case is .600 bigger in dia. so most applications are going to require a larger dia. prop to get the same result that you had with the smaller 3L stuff.

just over a 1/4 inch more from the prop shaft center to the bottom of the case so in theory that is what you will need to increase the prop dia. by in order to achieve the same result. This is all new territory for me as well but I know that this case will have to be high and on top to work.

You will have to experiment to find out what props work best for you on your setup as mentioned. A larger dia Case will provide you more lift but its really the dia and the length together that give you the whole lift equation. Being a 1/4 inch more clearance from the prop shaft to the foil means you can obviously run larger dia props but on an Allison with the lift generated buy the pad you will have to find that balance were the dia of the cases lift and the pads natural lift strike the right balance of bite threw prop dia and prop shaft hight. I would wonder if there is a min dia Merc recommends for that case to always have clean water on the blades and go from there. I imagine you would not want to run anything under 14 and nothing over 15.75 dia props. With a 15 3/4 dia prop you would be running above the pad and still have bite but water pressure would be another story? Like the old saying ya cant try to many props!

My experience with the HD sportmaster was that it is sensitive to height but the prop diameter wasn't that critical.
The large diameter housing equates to more drag so running it high is critical. They did move the water inlet back/down almost to the front of the skeg, allowing high running.
I ran bravo1's, blaster, pro max, Maximus, max5, and p5x. The max5 was the fastest and its 15". The bravo1 was slowest and its 15.25. My second fastest prop was the pro max and it was only 14.5". The Maximus was 15.3 and it clearly lost speed and efficiency vs the similar but smaller max5.
