    ETEC 225 failure

Well a very sad Canada day weekend for me as my V-6 is now a V-5. I havent had a chance to get the heads off yet but upon removal of the spark plugs i can see that the port side top cylinder is in pieces. So my main question here is as I disassemble, what kinds of things should I be looking for? ie: common failure points. I have read a few threads here and there of air bubbles in the oil system after a re-rig that caused failure of upper cylinders. I did just re-install the powerhead so that would make sense, but what are the signs of this or is it even true? I would assume that by priming the bulb that the system is primed and G2G. if its injector failure what would signify this? im just at a loss here, its been such a strong motor for me and now this. potentially a season ruined.

Part B of all of this is now that im doing a rebuild, is it possible/ what would it take to make this into a 250HO? Engine is currently a 2005 225HO. can the powerhead be made into a 250HO or are the differences to great????

    any input appreciated guys, Thanks.

Well any thoughts? All other cylinders fine with no wear.

Looks fired leaned right out just in the one so maybe injector failed? Im NO expert at all in this but thats what it looks like to me. Got hot melted the top and blew the rod right threw the melted piston top from not getting oil and or fuel.

You may get lucky and need to work just that one bore and new piston correct and flow fuel rail or reed failure? As you go deeper it will become more obvious what it was. Take lots of pics the OMC boys will know what caused this. Good luck man i hope you can have a speedy recovery and get august and sept in before you know what! haha

I'm constantly worrying about this with my Yamaha HPDI. If it's not performing 100% it doesn't get used until I find the problem. I love the fuel economy, but I hate all the high pressure crap.

When rerigged the oil system needs to be bleed and primed. Before full disassembly IMO get a print out off the computer as it may give ideas as to why. After reassembly oil needs to be verified and I personally would replace the injector. No you can not make yours into a 250HO as they have a longer stroke crank, different style injectors etc.
