I haven't gotten to mess with the V8 yet, but all the v6s we've rigged have been absolute monsters compared to what we took off the boats.

I am extremely excited to read the results of your tests and also extremely jealous as my 300 proxs comes in November. It will be rigged on an old 23' alleycat.

Can't wait to hear the results. I hope aftermarket companies can take it to 350+ with a tune

If the motor is 4-5 mph faster then the 300xs that would be an improvement, kind of expensive but a welcome improvement. If it was 7-8 mph faster that would be impressive. We all just have to wait and see.

It takes about 20% more power to add 8 mph in one of these boats with no other changes. Keep in mind they are still bound to hit the rated power +/- some percentage so let's not get too carried away.

IMO if it beats the 300xs by any measurable amount, it's success because you get all the other 4 stroke advantages without any performance loss.

I agree,..More HP to be tapped from this new 300R. This could be in the 400 hp range later on with the cubes it has without a supercharger.

87 octane seems very nice, as most marinas only have 89 which most people (although there are some that do) will not run in the 300xs. For people that keep their boat on lifts it allows you to avoid the dreaded...get trailer, hook trailer to truck, find someone to drive truck to ramp, deal/wait on idiots at ramp, load boat, drive to gas station for 91-93 octane, go back to ramp, deal/wait on idiots, have someone drive truck back to house, unload/store trailer. If they get the same performance as the 300xs with 89 octane and the reliability (will take a while to determine obviously), it will prob be my next motor. I'm sure there will be some tuning from the aftermarket using higher octane, just like cars/trucks, and Merc will probably come out with something hopped up in the future as well. I am real curious as to what Wildman thinks and look forward to a report.

I talked with the person that tested the 300R on the Bullet. It was 1mph faster than the XS with a VERY expensive propeller! But this is just the beginning, big HP to come!

My Mercury dealer said the fastest 21 Bullet (almost 22ft) he has sold ran 97 with a 300x or 300xs. The 300R supposedly ran 103. The 20ft Bullet is about 10 mph faster.

Mercury should have used your Dealer as the test pilot I might have bought the 300R instead of the XS had he told me 10mph over the XS. But it was right at 4K difference. We will see shortly as they start appearing on some boats. Havent heard much about fuel consumption either. Like to put one on my Center Console and drop some weight from the Verado in a couple years when the Bigger HP models pop up.
