I understand, I was just commenting on the total cost. It will also take a lot of testing on each hull and to your point, Dewalt can certainly dial something in for 1/3 the cost of the CNC prop.

It will take good propellers to make this case work and torque combination work. Remember when the 400s first came out, everyone was throwing blades until the cnc stuff became mainstream. The overhub is able to made with much lower rake then possible on the overhub as well.

i know, there’s a lot more development to do before judgement is passed and the low end torque is impressive and what it does with this prop will be a benchmark but someone needs to figure out how to make a “normal” priced prop work, just saying.

And to be fair about it , you would have to flog a few $3000 - $5000 dollar wheels on a 300xs before you could actually claim the purposed five MPH gain .

    Carry on …

Also to be fair, it didn't take the $5k cnc for the 300r to outrun the 300xs. It did that with a max5, which is essentially a cut down and labbed Maximus.

It appears the 300r is more powerful than the 300xs with just a few props tested and basically a motor with less than 5hrs of use. I wonder what the difference would be if the 300r could use same sportmaster and prop selection as the 300xs, i bet prob close to what a 300x does? It's just a matter of time before these new motors eclipse, if they haven't already, the old legacy 2 stroke motors. I've had a 300x and they are powerful motors but I do look forward to see how Merc develops these new v8's. I really think by the end of the year we will see what these motors are capable of. I'm glad Wildman will be getting another prop to test and look forward to the results.

So far sounds like a guy with a older 300xs liberator that runs 105-106 will be happy leaving it alone...or be ok going sideways.

5mph faster and $5000 more up front. If that’s not OK with anyone or everyone really, do you have another option?

From what I'm seeing advertised, the price difference looks like about $3000.....but you aren't just getting 20 more hp. It's not just about the top speed, though it is faster.

Once Merc figures out they are alone in the marketplace, it will be $5000 or more. Right now because you can’t get the gear ratio needed, you spend at least a grand more on a prop so you are at 3+1 or more.

And you don’t have much choice.

I'm not sure why everyone is comparing these motors to an XS and thinking its the end comparison. -As soon as there is a tune and aftermarket ECU available, and they are set up to run on 91 octane or better its totally game over and there will be way more then 5 or 7 mph difference. These are the times that will justify the making the switch for me. My fourstroke Thundercat wasn't anything great in stock form but ride it now and it will give you "permagrin".

Lol....this is a comparison thread is it not? Not every body wants to buy a 300r then modify it. So it's fair to compare them both as from Mercury isn't?
