The top of the cowl is only 3 1/2 inches higher then the XS, the block is lighter then the XS, but the gear case is heavier, I don't think the handling will be much different-time will tell, as soon as this water goes down to where we can get into the ramp then its on.

The power to weight ratio of the STV in the safer and more practical size of a 21' tunnel. I'm 65 and starting to mellow. I hope Mercury marketing is aware of the numbers of my fellow baby boomers and that we grew up on late 60's vee-drive flat bottom boats.

It is a Magnum which was a knock off (or splash if I understand that term correctly) of a Sanger. Powered by a 392 Chrysler Hemi, water cooled V-drive into a prop pitched for skiing and able to pop up 7 skiers on singles at Lake Tahoe's high elevation (6400'). Top speed 85 mph with the poor Hemi just screaming.

Yep, and that is why I want to get civilized with a 21' tunnel.

I like the idea of what your looking for but there is not anything out there that can compare to the ride and performance of an stv in the 21' range. The only hull I can think of would be a 21 Liberator. You will have to special order one built in composite materials with weight savings in the lay up schedule to get a lighter hull and performance your looking for. As far as I know most 21' liberators built to this day are still built with wood. Lighter is faster but also cost a lot more. You may want to consider a 21 twin engine. Randy has built some pretty bad ass twins than run like a champ

So liberator lists the 21' bare hull at 890 lb, whereas stv listed the euroski at 875. Seems like the 300r on a 21' liberator would be right with it on power/weight. That is....barring ultra light race layup hulls.

The sound of that motor reminds me when a 200 Merc wasn't really a 200

What if this new 300 is a bit more?

From what I think I'm seeing is, Merc caught everyone else sleeping.
Most of the technology was already here but not to get the weight where it is.

Last I knew, the mfgs were limited to + 10% of advertised HP's.
So where as the 300 E-etc is only 278-ish HP, what if the new V-8 is 330.00000 HP's?

The lightest 4 stroke 8, and probably the least taxed/loaded 4 Stroke on the market.

    Meaning........, what's next

    Love it.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

I agree with like a 21 skater with twins, more maintenance with the twins but probably closest you can get to stv performance, that can handle in rough.

i can’t see a light layup 21 liberator being decent in rough water. But I will say a 21 liberator is the only boat that was in front of me running to the dam. Either he had balls of steel or the 21 liberator is a very good rough water boat, maybe both.

    Mornin G ,

@ 4.6L they prob had a hard time pulling it back to "only 330"
I'm sure it will "feel" a lot stronger than it really is . Since most people spend a great deal of their outboard time between idle -5000 rpm , they were smart going with the big inch , long runner , short overlap cam timing .
It will be just like one of them push button , Max-Wedges ….

The 21 Liberator is listed as 890 lbs, but it is NOT. I weigh all my new boats as a bare hull. All the 21's are within 10 lbs of 1075 lbs. All my Liberators have composite transoms and bulkheads. You can walk all over them and have two people lay out on the front deck. The running surface of the sponsons are balsa core for rigidity. The Texas sold Liberators are still wood transoms. I don't know why, but they are.

Lots of careful thought gone into what number to put on the cowl and how much power at the propshaft, I'm sure..

Azidlyf, who makes that tunnel, lay up, weight, length and beam? We are almost neighbors, I live in a residential airpark just outside Columbus, NM.

I'm sure Mercury has the ECU locked down tight making changes impossible until someone breaks in if possible? May even be tighter than our fabulous government email servers.
