Randy,
With that motor mounted on your liberator, on the trailer, do you have to get up inside the boat to release the handle up top to take off the cowl? Just curious if standing behind/beside the motor can you get to the handle up top? I understand the handle up top unlatches all 4 latches which is nice, but you prob never need to take the cowl off from inside the boat with the small door to check oil/add oil that they have.1990 Viper 140 crossflow

I put the cowl on when it was on the boat, but I had to get in the boat to fold the handle down. Top of the motor is about 6 1/2 ft off the ground.

It's not that it makes the two stroke market obsolete, it's just everyone except Evinrude is four stroke. I like both. But according to most data, the G2 is more efficient on fuel. No weight advantage anymore, just less moving parts, and the integrated steering is more advanced. I'm a Merc guy, still warming up to the looks of the new one. Can't wait to see the real world results.

I guess BRP could spend the next few model upgrades making them lighter, they are there on Fuel and emissions for a while.
Steering wise I am surprised Merc didnt just bury a steering cylinder into mid/swivel bracket like the OMC Sea Drive did, its very tidy, unless there is a patent on that?
I am waiting for electric linear actuators and goodbye hydraulics, first to market that will have a jump on the rest.
Got electric throttle and shift just one more piece of the puzzle.Last edited by powerabout; 07-12-2018 at 02:03 AM.

They do have a 300 model with the Verado integrated steering ram, but it's not the Sportmaster model

How heavy is the cowl? I'm looking forward to someone getting a hold of one of these and ripping it apart to see how much weight can be shaved from it.
Lightweight cowl?
Delete electronic shift and throttle? I imagine those solenoids are heavy, plus cable only is simpler and more reliable.
15 inch mid? If merc won't do it I hope someone will.

Think early optimax for the standard motors. It's all about keeping then quiet. Maybe the R motors are lighter.
They are stupid easy to remove with the handle though.
The electronic shift and throttle has proven itself reliable across all the manufacturers and models. Is is VERY rare an issue comes up.Last edited by RSWORDS; 07-12-2018 at 09:23 AM.

@ blacktruck, Two strokes do make great power and there will be a market for them for the die hards, but I think that will fade into the nostalgia category of hot boats.
