    Laser EFI fuel system question

    Re-rigging a 2.4 XRI (laser injection). Was going to remove vst tank and fuel pump just to tidy things up a bit, already have a Weldon pump and filter to use in boat. Plan was to plumb from tank to pump to fuel rail, then to adjustable regulator and back to tank. I have been educated that the factory pump and vst system is capable of maintaining a consistent fuel pressure due to a vacuum referenced regulator. Has anyone done a similar swap successfully? How did it work out? What regulator did you use? Any other concerns with going this route?

    Also would like to know this...Is the stock regulator 1:1 vacuum reference? ie. for every 1psi more intake pressure, the fuel pressure also increases 1psi ..?

    ...and curious to know what you'll do with the bleed system that feeds back into the VST - will you just block them all off? ...sorry to threadjack!

    This regulator kit should be perfect, mine is similar but a little higher end and this one comes with some gauges etc

    run from tank to pump, pump to injector rail, injector rail to regulator. Regulator to tank

    yank all the vst junk. If changing. You could feed the pump and return to the vst instead of from the tank but will be much simpler and easier to just pull it all and feed/return to tank

    I had a few answers on Facebook as well, looked up a Bosch gold regulator with vacuum reference. $190 and not available in Canada (through Napa anyways). I have looked at a Holley adjustable with vacuum reference locally, so I'm now wondering if 39 psi is max at wot or if it should be set at 39 psi and allow vacuum port to take it from there?

    That's the regulator I bought, intended to use with the stock VST and fuel pump still in place but haven't set it up yet. It's 1:1 and should flow plenty.

    The purpose of the VST is to allow the motor to be rigged with a single fuel hose from the boat with a primer bulb. If you’re going to re-engineer the system I would make it as simple as possible like 90 5.0 recommended. If you keep the VST you’re just adding complexity to something that could and should be simple and fairly bulletproof!

    i am using this one now, it allows me to just change an internal spring to switch between efi and carb setup without changing pumps and regulators easily.

    In my first post I explained how I was going to build the system, which is exactly how 5.0 recommemded.

    So are you setting fuel pressure for laser injection at 39psi at idle or wot?
