Ran a 34px15 merc cleaver. Boat ran 101 and climbing but was a handful to slow down. Seems to run better when on the gas.
Anyone have advice on slowing down from over 100mph in a Virage?

pic was taken at only 60mph

    thanks guys!

Hi I run 109 mph with my 1990 hydrostream virage stage 1 with spinelli dr4 34' and 107 mph with my performance drag4 32' on my 300xs 1.62 gear and 12 inch bobs lift no problems with handling still think there is more in it with the spinelli what kind of engine do you run?

If you look for the perfect prop ask Doug from spinelli he make mine custom for this combination and runs really good

Here you see how mine is running:

Hey your videos are awesome! Beautiful boat!

Running a 300 xs with 12" bobs jack and 1.62 gears

I'm just wondering how you get up to speed? Do you use the jack plate and trim? If so how do you do it? I'm still green at driving this boat. Also how do you go about slowing down again? That's when the boat gets hairy on me sometimes.

Thats nice same setup! I jack up till the waterpressure drops down dont be affraid you losing control boat correct itself trim little out till the boat is flying. Now running 109 mph but think there are couple more mph in it. Think humpback cleaver keep the hull in the water thats why iam running semi cleaver style props. Pro e.t give to much bowlift for me and cleavers not enough my 32 performance is my daily prop and the spinelli for topspeed runs.

You can see on my movies when i go of the trottle i got no problems at all next week i do some new proptesting hopefully new records.

Ok thanks. So it is more about jacking the engine up high instead of trimming. I feel like I was over trimming it and maybe that's why it gets squirrelly on me and not high enough on the jack plate.

Yes i need to run it high as possible wait till the speed comes up and do little trim till the boat is flying. Think better to try a semi cleaver style. Will make some new movies next week.

Hey I also wanted to ask if you had a 300X before your xs?
if so how do the two engines compare?

What is the best semi cleaver prop you have ran? 3 blade vs 4 blade?
    thanks again

The last owner (friend of me) had a 300x on it but he sold it to me so didn't do lot of proptesting so hard to compare. Last time i run a 14.5 x 34' high rake 4 blade cleaver from cutting edge propellers. Poor holeshot and slow acceration but when @ speed it runs good already 106 mph @ 6000 rpm but not enough lake length so will be little more in it.

I Prefer on this moment my performance drag 32' for 2 persons then it runs 105 mph and 1 person 107 mph @6250 rpm and the Spinelli dr4 14.75 x 34' top end 1 person 6000 @ 109 mph spinelli gives a impressive mid punch
