Unhappy 22 Progression prop recommendation ?

    Current set up:
    1990 Progression 22 with a stock 2002 225 DFI 25”Merc 1:75 low water pick up,
10” bobs extreme hydraulic pump in the lift, sea star hydraulic steering,
two fat 1000 cca batteries port side, 12” sub tube in nose 8 lbs, 1/3 tank gas approx. 20 gallons=134 lbs.
    I weigh 215lbs and wiffie115lb :
best top speed at WOT 5500… 66 MPH using a high five 13.25 x 21P … ski n tube prop.. pftt

    Also tested:
    13.25 X 21P 4 Blade 5500 @ 62 MPH hit rev limit plenty left
Mirage plus 27P 3 blade 5500 @ 64 MPH rpm 1000 to low had to trim way up
Mazco 29P 3 blade 5000 @ 61 MPH take off hit rev limit, jacked up rpm 500 to low

Just thought these numbers would be way better.
Already heard.. go on a diet yeah yeah ask Kevin what he recommends bla bla blahhh bolt a 250xs on it.

Objective: I would like to get the fastest top speed, yet be able to get out of the whole with 4 people.
Thought this info should already exist but I can’t find any links… if someone could share or direct,
    that would be helpful too!

I'm open ears to constructive suggestions ...
What brand, prop style, size and pitch details appreciated?
Thanks for your time and consideration in advance.

I'm running a 24 pitch Trophy on my 22 Activator with a 200 2.4 motor. 6100 rpms and 61 mph so far with 3 people and a full tank of fuel.

I have a Diamond Marine massaged 200 Merc (240 HP at the crank) on my 1992 Progression 22 so it should be fairly similar to your boat. I run a BBlades massaged Yamaha 3 blade 27" pitch and get 77 MPH at 6400 RPM. If I put a 21" pitch on mine, I'd probably spin it to the moon and back. You should have one hell of a hole shot right now and as for top end, you're not going to get anything wild with that prop - as you've already found out.

Just out of curiosity, where is your motor set? (Where is the prop shaft relative to the planning bottom?) Are you standing the boat up on the pad when you're trying to get maximum speed? Driving a P22 at the limit takes a fine touch.

I have a 22 progression with a 250XS. It will run 80 with a 26 Trophy. All kinds of props out there. Just depends what you want to do. Engine height and setback will make a difference too. A 21 pitch prop seems small for that setup.

One call to Brett at BBlades will probably get you a far better answer than any of us here too.

I'm still playing with the set up. The boat is a flat transom with a 12" bracket with a 4" hydraulic plate on top of that. Gearcase has a Bobs nose cone on it and it doesn't seem seem like it was molded on right. It was all blistered when I got it and I tried to repair it but I think it's not prefect. I know I have alot of slip but I haven't held it out on a long run, had a coil dropping off and mis-firing.

If you're running your numbers, you have a -3% slip according to the Mercury prop slip calculator, I'm running 18% slip.

With the jack all the way up, how high is the motor? With a 25" leg, you may still be way too low.

I have been playing at different heights but its a 20" motor and have been keeping it on the low side. all the way up the bullet is above the bottom.

    Good point TooStroked!
I'm not sure I will have to measure the cone to the pad height! tonight.
Your 200 spins 1000 RPM more than my 225 ..its "torquiee" I limit at 5400-5500...
Kind of runs flat, guess its time to toss the sub and move the anchor out of the ski locker ! to get more ride out of the pad.
Thanks for the reply... I like your speed # would be very happy with mid 70's!

Have a 22 pro also with a 20 inch and a 1.75 sport. Get rid of that 25 mid. I run a 30 pro max and has been the perfect prop. Jumps on plane great mid-range and only 5% slip at wot. Bravo also performed well

Ran mine this weekend, motor was too high, ran the hydraulic transom all the way down, gained 5 mph and down to 6% slip at 5800 rpms. I'll drop the engine down one bolt hole on the plate to get it lower and raise the hydraulic up when needed.

try a 23 promax because a 24 promax works for me in a 21 super 1 1/2 under pad i’ve seen 74 but it’s 71-72 all day that’s w a fresh fresh water promax 225 that makes more like 240 i’d say 22.5 or 23 it blows a trophy away on my boat. safe boating well worth the 640 than spending 300 a piece on garbage props u don’t know what was done to them keep it box stock but i’d call scott at merc racing props nice guy n a expert on his props b blades r great but there experts on there props not mercs my gut says 22.5 cause they run stiff in other words a 22.5 is more like a 23.5 trophy know it’s not made but a 23 w b close to a 24 but u can lower the engine n that should raise more boat out the water so i’ll get some more speed but a22 w a 225 i’m thinkin 72-73 is where you w end up. n that’s pleanty fast. i’m lucky to have had access to drive 28 n 308 skaters also have a 24 skater project being worked on prob w take 2 years by time it’s done cause i’m useing glass guys on there free time but i have 1 promax w a 2nd should b at at least 100.. enjoy the bot the speed w come n not many people can feel the difference betweeen 68 n 70-72.your never gunna have a rocket w a 200 u need a 300 promax that w get u mid high 80s n a x w get u into the 90s but am i the only one that feel an inherent lean in the progressions. i feeel there’s a lot more driving involved in the progression. not knocking them great boat any long island built boat is better than any masss production boat just buy a promax lower it to a inch or better under assuming u have at least 10 inch set back n u will gain a couple mph just cause of seat time
