Local Bass Pro has had one on their lot for a couple weeks now. Surprised at hearing the lead times.

Kinda looks like the end to peeps doing their own repair/tune work.

I don't think so, ask your local car dyno shop if they are running more cars now then ever. There are multiple programing tunes available for every high performance V8 on the market. Its just easier then then the old days of having to pull the motor down and changing actual hardware, now it just takes a laptop. There is no question that someone will be making an aftermarket ecu for these motors and that there will be big power extracted from them. As for repair work, Mercury isn't going to release these things in a form that they are going to commonly fail. Look at the amount of big inboard power that they have out there with their warranty helo hanging over it. They know the cost to repair a failure of something with this many moving parts and its not something are interested in paying for.

Since the lead time is so long I upgraded to the 300xl pro XS, still looks like late October early November as long as I don't keep upgrading the longer I wait.. Rock, do you remember the price tag that bass pro had on their 300?. My otd price was $20,296.00 that's including shipping, and extended warranty.

Also, considering its easy to get 400hp out of the Ford 4.6l I think this engine is going to have huge hp potential. I'm hoping to get real specs soon such as crank, rod, and piston measurements. I dream of the day we have fully forged, supercharged v8 obs weighing less than 600lbs and putting out 600hp on 91 octane.

if an outboard produced as much power as a sled engine, then they would make car stuff look like low performers and thats either 2 stroke or 4 stroke. Almost no production engine under 150hp/litre NA
A boat engine has a tough life and one gear so a different use profileLast edited by powerabout; 07-09-2018 at 12:50 AM.

I think of sled engines like sport bikes, high hp and high rpm but no torque. I think if there was a band type transmission like Honda uses that would be the ticket. Rev it up to 9k where the hp is and then start spinning the prop.
