Is it true that the V'8s hold about a bathtub full of water so don't forget to figure that minor detail. Don't they take a few minutes to start peeing????????? Although dry weights are similar my suspicion is that the 3L Merc is a lighter running package. Sorry for off topic. My inquiring mind would like to know?

Captain's 23 is a full weight hull as factory shipped boat. He's running healthy 390 horse Evolution V8's with Evolution light twelve pound cowls. Twelve inches of setback. Transom pickups. One 80 pound k-plane on center pod, not needed and should be removed. The bottom has the usual 23 design flaws with no abnormal hook/rocker defects out of common for a 23. Dry boat with no evidence of rot or water log.
The labbed by somebody 14 1/2 x 32 Mazco three blade clevers are not hooking up. 94 mph @ 7800 rpm's and climbing at shut down (overrev fear) with 1.62 gear. Excess trim needed for top speed. Does not respond to motor elevation changes. Full throttle planning at all reasonable motor trim settings with k-plane full up is instantaneous with no excessive prop slip. Acceleration is very impressive, as expected.
Boat was never dialed in, no attempt made after 1991.
Has anyone ever seen a twin V8 23 dialed in? Help hookup a great fellow boater.Last edited by tunnelfun; 08-08-2018 at 03:52 AM.

That is good looking boat. It looks like the exhaust have plugs in them? Are you running the motors with them in, if so that makes a difference if there making 390 hp it should be open. I remember talking to Ron Baker and said the one he had ran 110 with twin V8's.

No way I would have spun my Stage V Evo V8's 7800. At 7200, they were all done, and those were the 430hp versions. When I went to the Monty V8's, I kept stock limiters (6700) to keep the reliability.
Any issues in the midrange with those motors? I assume they are Stage IV's? Mine would NOT run from 3500-4400 due to porting. If you got them to 3500, they jumped to 4400, and if you let them get just below 4400, they bogged to 3500.Keith-

I believe Captain's will spend some money on props before dial in comes around. I've suggested he remove the two 90 pound full sheets of 3/4 inch plywood floor with glass on both sides from the dash bulkhead forward.
Does anyone in Wisconsin have prop's for testing. 15x34's, 36's?

No. No part throttle hole in the power curve. Ran 4000 rpm just fine.

[QUOTE=Brad Zastrow;3050839]Those 23's are not that heavy and the last thing he needs with the big outboards is bow lift. Run three blade cleavers 14.5 diameter with a pitch to be determined.[/QUOTE
Agreed. My 24 ran best with 30x 14.5 4 blade cleavers. Top end was 32x14.5 3 blade cleavers. My two cents!
