    Wives tale or not?

I have a bass boat where the gel coat and clear coat are oxidizing. A friend told me instead of getting it re-shot, try the following:

Put armor all on for 2 days in a row. Don't just spray it on, but coat it on and let it set in.

Then use a really good wax. He said he couldn't remember the name of it but it came with a primer.

    Anyone ever heard of this?

I'll do my BFG 35" tires with AA by hand. Wash first with a good scrub, dry. Apply AA liquid spray and palm it around, let sit don't wipe. It gets in the surface or seems to carry the look for days. Try a small area if you want but using a primer wax on top , I think that's more a surface prep to clean prior to final wax. I've used a three step wax on the paint to do a surface up wax job on the cars. You want to try to bring the gell back it better be thick enough to go through a proper cut and polishing, I've seen real ugly brown water hulls with a thick oxidation up top come back beautifully with a few days work, then wax if you care to.

I prefer soft scrub of mr clean for tires. Scrub with a stuff bristle brush. Gets all the crap of the rubber and lets the black be black. Not shiny, but dust and dirt doesn’t stick either. That shiny stuff will sling off on your paint too and leave oily spots that dirt sticks to.

I can’t think of anything on my boat I would armor all...

Actually don't use AAll try Meguiers or Mothers but if you let it dry out with rubbing in, it won't dust or sling. I use it on the boat trim etc, conditions the vinyl seat covers, protection from sun , keeps it softer and crack free over time. Just don't lather it up, just enough and wipe it in. Like to do it before boat isn't in use. AutoGlym has a good scent

To the OP. Leave the armor all at the parts store for grandpa to use on his tires and dashboard. You can level a ditch with water too, but as soon as it dries the ditch is still going to be there. Same way with gel and filling the micro scratches with oils to make it shine. As soon as the oil dries it's going to look the same, AND be a huge mess.

This. Need to clean the pores of the rubber before applying protectant, rub it in, and let it sit. Then if there's any excess, wipe it up. Any decent oil based trim detailer (NOT Armor all) will last for weeks this way. This is a must down here with our sun, tires WILL get sun damaged if you let them go without, I made that mistake with my old 33s because I was in "don't GAF mode" with my suburban, and now they're worthless for anything other than wheeling a project truck around.

I drive my junk too much for the sun to get my tires, usually 40-60k per year. My tires don’t usually see two summers...
