Maximus prop on an outboard
Mercury clearly designed the 5 blade, 15 5/8" diameter Maximus for i/o applications with the drive very high. They later created the 15" diameter max5 out of it for the 400r by shortening the tube and cutting down the blades. The 400r's HD sportmaster has to be run high so you need more blade area that the typical outboard props..
I'm wondering if anyone has tried the Maximus on an outboard application, and what specifically it would sacrifice vs the cut down Max5.
Edit: This would be for a high prop shaft, like 1-1/2" above the pad.
Thanks,

I have real doubt that it will pull a 30 or bigger with that dia. up to 7K. The tube length will just give you additional lift but additional dia. tube can make it loosen up (verify that the dia. of the tube is the same-you can change the length easily).

I've been able to pull 28" max5 and pro max past 7000, but if I decide to try a Maximus I would step down to a 26 or maybe even 24.
My understanding is that the Maximus and max5 tubes are the same diameter but the max5 is cut shorter like the Maximus ST. I could pretty easily cut the tube of a Maximus if need be....just need a dimension. My emininator has lots of stern lift already due to the raked pod.
