What have I got
OK, just picked up what is supposed to be a Mercury 1974 long shaft 150 horse. Serial number 3915919, black painted motor, has distributor. The block is casting number is 852-6381 with a 2w under the casting number. Where it has a block for the serial number it says "FACTORY REBUILT" Motor is pretty clean, plug number 3 has metal on it, number 6 is covered in rust. lower unit looks clean, haven't checked the lube yet. Wiring isn't crumbled up. No tilt n trim. 100 bucks ????

Consider it a wonderful opportunity to get familiar with the resurrection of tower of power , if possible.

I have an absolute sh*t ton of virgin Michigan fresh water internal parts free plus shipping for inline 6's. For dudes willing to keep these motors going.

Merc serial numbers only tell the year, not the model

Three ring, power port, believe high dome pistons. Number three is AFU, number six doesn't look too bad. I've heard reasons for numbers one and six being wiped out, but what takes out number three?????

Number three is the big 6's hard luck cylinder. It fails more than 1 or 6

The middle top monkey.....on pulse tunning gets hot from both ends. Merc made a dist plate that retarded #3. Clean up the bore with a Floppy wheel and put a slug in it and go on....... I use a Floopy as not to hone out just to get the burnt piston junk. Then hone.... Or send it to a shop that Knows blind bores and buy 6 nos .. nla pistons...
