Exclamation Mercury 300R Startup and Running Video

I shot this at Lake X. This is the 300R starting up and running. The startup shows how loud the engine is with the exhaust switched to 'open'. I think it sounds really good!

The boat used was an SCB Revolution, and this is an absolutely bad-to-the-bone rig. It was just an incredible package with the 300R.

    Mercury race 300R HD

Does anyone know how you switch it from loud to quiet, somebody said it is a button. I don't see it in the catalog. It also said that the integrated rear tie-barmounting plate is on selectedH.D. Midsection models. Does anyone know if it comes on the 25" model. Also wonder if you can connect the side mount steering cylinder to the tie bar with an adapter? If no one knows I plan to call Mercury during the week.

    Mercury race 300R HD UPDATE

I spoke to Adam in Mercury racing customer service. He said that all 8 cylinder outboards have exhaust sound adjustment if you have the Mercury vesselview panel to make the adjustment. I checked the vesselview operators guide but did not see anything specifically mentioned about adjusting the exhaust sound. He also said the tie bar is available on 20 and 25 inch 300R HD engines. He found this out only by looking at the price list showing the factory tie bar option. As far as the steering cylinder side mount goes he does not have a clue. He told me to contact a dealer and I found this useless in the past. My steering plate on the 300x has one hole for the tie bar and another for the steering which is off the center line. I did not see any close up pictures of the tie bar but I believe Mercury would have to make another plate to attach the steering cylinder. In the past no engine or boat manufacturers wanted the sole point of attachment to be the cast outboard tiller piece in the front of the motor. The best thing to do is have a high performance boat manufacturer call mercury racing and make the inquiry. It would be beneficial to all to do this before production gets in full swing. Does any one have a good relationship with a boat builder that also has influence with Mercury Racing?

Mercury 300R HD 2nd update on exhaust sound and tie bar

I just received an update from Mercury with regard to the adjustable exhaust sound. Please disregard what I said previously. Quote Is has been relayed to me that the racing version of the V8 does not have Advance Sound Control (exhaust adjustment). This is available on the V8 engines with the advanced midsection only which the racing version of the engines do not have. The racing engines use their own special heavy duty midsection that is based off of our conventional midsection. These engines have a different muffler setup so they will be a bit louder than our standard V8 outboards. So whether you have the Vessel View display or not you will not be able to change the sound from the engine as you can with the standard V8 with advanced midsection. end quote.
The good news about the tie bar is since I did not hear from anyone I emailed this forum to Mercury and it is being sent to the Mercury Design team for review. I will keep everyone up to date when I hear something.

I'm curious to see how the optional side mount steering will look, currently running side mount on my motors since the standard sea star system wasn't holding up to offshore use...

No one has been able to tell me what ram length will be needed yet. I am told that the HD motors won't be delivered until late July.

Wow this will be an incredible motor for an Allison or tuff boat! Love the way it sounds. i think ill add to the triple digit 100mph+ single engine boats to this to Tallon, Liberator, perhaps Checkmate, Obviously STV ect... I think ill start a thread on this. haha

Mercury 300R HD 3rd update on tie bar/steering

Mercury 300R HD 3rd update on tie bar/steering

I received a reply from Mercury

I have checked with our design engineering team for an update for you. At this time they have advised these engines will not be ready until late August at the earliest and some engine designs are still changing/evolving. Due to this there will be no comment on the setup or final design of the rear tie bar application until we get closer to the release date. We appreciate your patience in the matter
    (End quote)

Hopefully we have brought it to the attention of the design team that a steering cylinder attachment point could be incorporated in to the tie bar plate if designed properly.

Mercury 300R HD 3rd update on tie bar/steering

Just checked the updated Mercury Racing web site and they now offer a optional side steering kit for the tie bar. It's shown just below the full specifications on screen 4

I received a reply from Mercury
