I know in some instances the real old members like me (who’ve been around since BEFORE S&F, back when it was Ron Bakers Hydrostream and Allison and go-fast boats message board) have gotten old enough to have kids and grandkids and have sold off the gofastboats and now have boring tritoons with 200hp four strokes and kinda lost the interest in the fun little boats...
Greg is still THE BEST, and this is still the best board, but I’m afraid the days of cheap speed are slowly going away. The gear heads are getting old, and the replacement generation isn’t there in enough numbers to keep it as fun and interesting as it was.
As I sit here on my pontoon boat, I wonder if I still have one more go-fast boat in me...

I think it's a great site with volumes of great information. The last warlock build was excellent , the good stuff still happens but it's an instant world now and for younger boaters it's price. The bang for buck will drive it forward with rebuilding and mods just as it has been since the 50K+ instant rig is out of reach for a lot of the younger want to go fast. This site is a wealth of knowledge and for the unfamiliar it might seem a bit overwhelming to jump in with a small project but to those hanging on the side wanting to get in do so , everyone started with a tinny and a 6 and within a few minutes wanted the 9.9 .

I do not! I have a few S&F things (jacket being one) but the two times I visited Bakers I just couldn’t pull the trigger on a new Allison. I came THIS CLOSE to buying a Grand Sport back in the ‘90’s.

Plus the same group used to be the ones who were modifying and pioneering....which generated excitement to move forward and promotes others to try stuff, but they aren't doing it with the 4-strokes. The result is only a handful in the world are modifying new engines and pushing the performance envelope. I know I look to oso, BBC, and tht when looking for info on my 400r. I sincerely appreciate the guidance I've received from the site, but the 400r doesn't get much air time here.

So here we are with the most powerful merc ob ever built with a heavy duty purpose-built sportmaster, the whole package being extremely user-friendly, reliable, and fuel efficient. We have 350+ hp outboards from 4 different manufacturers (when has that ever happened??). You got a light weight 250 Yamaha 4-stroke with a factory LWP lower unit, and a swarm of rumors around a light-weight, powerful 4-stroke that sounds like a corvette....and yet the performance crowd still doesn't like them. Much like cars, this could be THE best time for boating performance in history based on the hardware available, but only if we embrace it.

The 2.5 is an awesome engine but every different combination has been done and it's a dying platform. I don't think there's much new to try or learn with it, and the site will eventually die if it doesn't move on to the newer stuff.

Just my opinion speaking as an infrequent poster for the reasons above. Sorry if this offends anyone.

Edit: I do agree about FB though.
Thanks. Liked your post however the 400R weighs way too much and cost way to much for the average guy with a 16-20" hull like most guys around here have. Its not talked about much because not very many people have them nor would they because its not suited for small outboard performance hulls. Im sure OSO will have much more discussions on the larger outboards..... I am anxious to see what guys start doing to the new 4 stroke 200 and 225. Another thing is a lot of guys cant afford a new motor and never will so the love of the old school 2 strokes is still big.

I spoke to Greg and the 4th forum heading here is now “Four Strokes and Direct Injected Outboards.” An olive branch if you will to the high performance 4 stroke boaters! I’m not sure that the “crowd” here generally dislikes them!

Being honest... facebooks easier. Share pics, talk **** and see who the person you are dealing withs profile. You can see where there from who, they hang with, who there family is, so when I deal goes bad you can burn it to the ground. Believe me LTB hasn’t quit talking ****. We have fun! 70% of the people on here talk about when they used to run boats, not how they run boats. Just my 2 cents

My post count has dropped dramatically since I’m not in front of a high school/college computer anymore. Adulting sucks. I build my junk and run it every chance I get did 100 miles two weeks ago at the ranch. Good to see people who will come out and ride instead of talk about how great they are. I don’t have facebook but when I hear people on here just make up a screenname talk **** to get a rise and then they delete their posts sure sounds like why I don’t have face book. All my real friends know how slow my **** is they have seen the GPS

I've only been a member of this site for a few years but it seem like it falls off during the winter months not as many people visiting and I keep waiting for it to pick back up this spring but it hasn't yet .... maybe we'll see a lot more action in the next month or so..... quite a few members that live down south that boat most of the year but a lot of us have four seasons....
