Looking at buying this Hydrostream
Not sure if this is the right section or not but as the title says I want to buy this boat https://raleigh.craigslist.org/boa/d...582844598.html
but I have some questions. When I asked about the core he said that it was sold to him as a race hull and the core was removed and the bottom was reinforced with stiffeners and west epoxy instead. Is this a normal thing? Also what kind of lower unit is that? I have never seen one before.

Is it a lot weaker like that? He said all the seats up front up were out of it.

I don't think the seats make a bit of difference but IMHO the sheet of glass across the bow vs the structural integrity of a bow rider liner.... NO comparison. The bow rider is stronger every day. The curves and angles of the liner give structural integrity to the party. Think offshore center console fishing boat hull.....

What about the core being removed and more glass being laid down?
-
05-08-2018, 08:35 PM #7I asked what is wrong with a bow rider... based on the comment that it was one.
You want to change the subject? OK. The core being removed would concern me. You win on that.
But I don't personally have any problem with a bow rider when it comes to strength.Last edited by TraceF3; 05-08-2018 at 08:38 PM. Reason: shpelling

For 5700 and if it does go 100 is the buy of the day if the core was removed and stringers glasses correctly would be golden. 100 mph bow rider. Yessir

Will do. Probably look at it this weekend. Is that horsepower level achievable with that motor?

I've seen people buy a lot less of a boat for a lot more money.

My first thought was that this sounds fishy. But looking at the ad, maybe not. I am sure others know more, but I have heard of Evolution modified motors. I would think the 290 is achievable. Don't recognize the lower unit, but then no reason I would. Looks like both nosecone and above the plate exhaust?
To me, the big issue is who did the work on stringers and glass and were they any good. I suspect it is a lot easier to put stringers and more glass as opposed to replacing the core, but still needs some technique. And has the transom been redone? I have said over and over that I love Hydrostreams, but any old one will almost certainly need core and transom.
Since he has an open tile, is he just flipping it? If so, can't rely on anything he tells you about the history. Look at the date of the seller's signature. Recent, he is flipping it. Old, why did he leave it open? Just avoiding sales tax? If I was the seller, I sure wold not be happy that it stayed in my name for any length of time.
This is not a race boat. It may be a production Hydrostream modified the same way Hydrostream modified some models to make a "race" version. If it truly is a 100 mph boat, I would rather see hydraulic steering than dual push-pull, but I think there are many boats that fast with that setup.
I can't comment on price. It seems pricey for an old boat and motor, but maybe if it is clean it is worth tht; I just don't know the market.Last edited by Li'l Toy; 05-08-2018 at 10:04 PM.
