Pair Monty Racing v8 Johnson 300HP XL 4.0L fresh build complete
Here is a bit of a story. I owned this 33 Hydra. 1989 Kevlar with Cuddy. The 300s were original. Had boat, ran awesome and it was time to sell. Sold boat to a guy in Tampa. Two years went by, we remained in contact. I told him, if he ever wanted to sell, call me because I loved the setup. Boat did 54mph and was not bad on fuel. One day I get a call. He wanted to trade it in and wanted to know if I would pay what the trade in was.
My neighbor bought the boat at a good price, because one of the pistons was stuck. Turned out, each engine had a stuck piston, so it was time to re-power or rebuild. Hydra was a SeaDrive setup so that made it a little more complicated to put on triples. Keep in mind, this was a 50+ MPH boat with twins.
I know Gordon from Monty and hauled the boat to Stuart where he rebuilt both engines, complete to the Monty Racing Spec. These were .20 over, little port, VRO delete, re-proped to get the correct RPMS at WOT, to correct engine "stick a piston". They love 6400, 6500, on up. Anything under 5800 at WOT is bad for V8's. According to Monty, these are 325 HP motors after his work.
Engines were done, boat was put in water then onto a lift, sat for a month. Seadrive Hydraulic lines were leaking, boat was taken to ramp, loaded to trailer and put behind my neighbors warehouse where it has sat for the last almost 6 years. Motors have been started periodically, but have less than two hours on them, all of which were driven by me or my daughter. Hydraulic lines and seals were replaced but never put back in water.
Turns out while in storage, there was a termite problem and it destroyed the transom.
Powerheads are practically new. Lowers are fine, low to no corrosion.
Got a pair, counter lower on port.
Asking $8000, loaded on pallet ready to ship or pickup.

Ill put them on my website for you to look at. If you want pretty, you will need to paint them. Black on lower is from the repaired hydraulic steering lines. Boat was never put back in water since hose repair. Solid Monty motors. Motors can be picked up at Gordon's shop in Stuart or at boats location. We can run them and then fork them off to crate or pallet.

Sea drives are convertible to bracket. BUT at minimum, everything is complete for an existing trashed bracket motor. Nice thing is that these motors are not going to have seized bolts anywhere. Cut off the trashed bracketed powerhead bolts, toss it, and use this new powerhead and lower.

The OEM manual says the motors are 550 pounds. There is little info to the exact weight with seadrive without weighing them. I know they can be converted to standard bracket. Top and lower of motor is the same. Midsection can accept a bracket mid or swapped.
Do a search on V8s. Compared to Verado weighing in at 680, these V8s can easily make 400hp by adding FI. Monty Racing builds and xtream V8s with as much as 800hp.
I don't see weight being as much of an issue as setback changing hydrodynamics of centerline. These V8s were pretty awesome on the 33 Hydra, saved the need for triples and was pretty efficient for getting up to speed.
