    Sportmaster lower shift shaft seal

I noticed fluid coming from the top of the lower unit ,I had just replaced the shift shaft seal, went in nice and tight when I removed it the shift shaft seal was 1/2 out . I know people say to let a little fluid out when u change fluid am I maybe not letting enough out and the pressure is pushing it out ? Thx for any info

I believe the correct amount of lube in the sporty (dry) is 28oz. If I had to guess dry to overflow would be a quart + lets just say 33/34 oz.
I've had very good luck when done filling with motors vertical, I take out the top plug and let it temp-cycle (open-drip) for two days, then cap it up.

you probably could (with the top plug in) pull the bottom plug and drain off 2oz.
