Is it time to replace my steering system?
I have a project on the go right now, I'm doing some restoration on a 1986 Seebold Eagle. The steering in the boat is a Teleflex dual cable setup with the single rack and is not a "no feedback" helm. I'm concerned with how much play I'm seeing at the helm. I can turn the steering shaft a good 10 degrees in each direction (20 degrees total at times) before I have any engagement of the cables. Is this simply wear and gear thrash?
I have heard that even these single rack, dual cable, setups can be adjusted at the motor but I haven't come across any good information on how to do so other than "loosen the front shaft and push towards the steering wheel side". Any help with this is much appreciated folks!

no , its worn out.. when you take this apart you will see just how crap the metal is on the rack... it is just wear and tear.
time to upgrade and go hydraulic or just complete new steering and cables..
