Johnson 70 Horse - Pee Tube Drill /Tap Location for Old 1975 Model
Guys, I have an old 1975 Johnson 70 Horse that I'm about to put back into service. This will serve as my river boat and is going on the back of a 15 foot tri-hull stick-steer conversion.
I want to add an overboard indicator (pee-tube) while I've got it off for painting. I've got a copy of the OMC Service Bulletin 2276 Rev 1, but it is for the mid-80's and later engines. My 1975 is different and the images and measurements shown in the bulletin don't match the shape of my outboard. I've seen numerous old threads and discussions about the bulletin and even found one detailed thread referencing photos that showed my exact engine from back in 2006, but the photos are now dead links.
I would love to get my hands on some photos or a diagram showing the hole location for drill/tapping the hole in the cooling passage.
Thanks In Advance! Gordon

I dont think there ever was a bulletin for a 49ci engine, anyone?
I wouldnt be drilling the exhaust cover without it off the engine or have another in your hand.
May sure when you do have a system it has stock pisser parts to keep the water flow down, if the pisser flows lots they get very hot at idle

Thanks for the input! I'm still hoping that someone here has done this and has photos. I've looked on Google and YouTube for the older 70 horsepower location without success. Gordon

you can pull the head off, look to see where you can drill into the top of the block into the water passage, this will also eliminate any trapped air up there.

Mine were always on the cover if you look at the right side the second and third bolt make a triangle with another bolt center the triangle. I always wanted to drill and tap the thermostat cover so I could see it operating.

Would you have any photos of that thermostat cover that was drilled/tapped? I have all-new pop-offs, springs, seals, thermostat, and gaskets. Now would be the time!
Thanks again!!!! Gordon
